I have a couple of antique humidors that are porcelain lined. The humi device is basically a slice of brick that is in mesh that you got wet and it provided moisture. This is an updated version. It would work the same as foam or most devices that come in humidors.

I have my Great Grandfather's depression era humidor and while doing research on it I learned that back in the day they used bricks soaked in water to provide humidity.

I'm guessing that this is an updated (commercialized) version of that old school principle.
