So looks like Cuba's status as a country has been updated to that,of a developed country next year (good thing) but over the next two years the tax rate will jump from 9.10% to 27%. Only a 4% increase in 2014 with the brunt being felt in 2015 but either way looks like prices worldwide will be jumping...... again. :)

Just another excuse for them to keep raising the prices anyways, lol. But that is a hefty tax. Good thing they are illegal here.
Yes. This is good. No one in the states will be affected by this tax... because we are already taxed enough on the cigars we can smoke :)

This is an EU tax and should only affect EU vendors that do not sell duty-free. Hopefully, others will not take advantage of the situation.

Same thing happened a few years ago and everyone raised the prices. This will happen again, and then the Regional editions from europe will climb even higher...

I thought it was funny that they tried to go the "its an increase of 15%, but because we are good guys and we like you, were only rasing 4% this year. See! now dont you feel good about a 4% increase!" Like others have said, this will not effect all vendors and hopefully those vendors do not use this as an excuse to increase their profits

For a good return, currently a $2.58 dividend or a 4.8% yield, I'd hit up the ADR for IMT. Since Imperial Tobacco owns Altadis which owns 50% of Habanos SA. But, obviously that's just one subsidiary of a broadly diverse tobacco brand. So, I have no clue if any of this will translate to the bottom line of the company

A few years ago the significant price increase came from HSA and was indeed worldwide. This is a change in the EU tax regime and HSA is actually planning to eat much of it next year via a cut in the wholesale prices to European distributors. The effect on non-EU channels shouldn't be significant.

Yeah I don't see the other half of the world raising prices just to benefit from EU market price hikes. They still have to compete with each other for sales.
