  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Cutter Suggestions?

I have come to a point where I really feel like upgrading my cutter. I have been using a single blade guillotine. It's served me valiantly, but I'd like something with two blades and capable of handling larger ring gauges. Price is a concern, I don't smoke heavily so I'm not about to lay down a lot of money on something I'm not going to be using a lot. I can't say for certain what my price point is though...would depend I guess :hammersma sorry to make it harder for you. Any suggestions?

I suggest Xicar. Wide range of prices, warranty for life...which includes sharpening. If you register (takes minutes on their website) they send a free leather case

Palio's warranty is for life, and all you have to do to replace it is go to a Palio dealer. They change it on the spot. You don't have to send it in.

Dan, I have used a Xikar for many years, I believe I own six different ones but, since I purchased my Palio I have used only it to cut my cigars.

The nice thing about the Xikars is they make one of the best V-cutters on the market, in my opinion, the Wolf Cutter.

Both companies offer a lifetime guarentee. Xikar can be returned to them or a retailer if replacement is needed and Palio only has to be returned to the retailer should you develop a problem with it.

I recently picked up a Palio and while it is a little bulky to carry in your pocket it is an outstanding cutter. Takes some while to get used to due to the bulky when compared to a normal blade cutter.

I prefer Xikar Cigar Scissors to carry in my pocket, the fact that they collapse makes them easy to carry

I would say a Palio from a couple sponsors on here. Also you would not be paying tax.(out of state) But if you want even better value. Sounds like Rons v cutters for a couple bucks are a cheap alternative.http://stores.cigarsolutions.com/-strse-Cigar-Cutters/Categories.bok

Buy a couple cheapies imo just to make sure if your going that route.
But my overall would be the Palio. buy once and never look back~

Xikar is the same way just take it to a dealer and exchange it and Dan they are a Missouri based business.

Never heard of the Palio until I joined BOTL, but it looks like a nice cutter. Will probably buy one if I ever lose my current cutter. Xikar has always been a bit too big for my tastes.

I've used a Zino guillotine since I started smoking cigars, it has always worked for me and I've never had any problems with it. The only issue is if I need to cut a really big ring cigar because it won't fit the hole, but I also have a AVO punch cutter although I don't like this style. Also have a LaGuiole folding scissors which isn't all that handy due to its size.

Also have a V-cutter, but really don't like the feel of the cut in my mouth, always feel that the tobacco will fall out.

Are you sure about that JJ? When I had a problem with one, they said I had to ship it to them. Says the same on their website.

i think the palio is larger than the xikar, but I don't think you can go wrong with either.

I own the xikar, but my next cutter will be a palio from ron, since I saw keinreis's.

So it seems that it's between a Palio and Xikar. I am not a fan of V cutters on aesthetic grounds. I have used a friend's Xikar before to try and cut the ash off my Nub so I could relight it, but it couldn't handle it (60 gauge). I like the way the Xikar looks, but the Palio seems to be able to handle the bigger gauge cigar. Hmmm...I'll have to mull it over some, thanks for the opinions guys!

Get both of the Palio and Xikar.
There both great cutters.
I also use the Cuban Crafters Perfect Cutter. Its my favorite and only cost $15

It certainly seems the Palio is the agreed benchmark for a straight cut; I have used it and found it to be a superior cutter. But for me I prefer the scissor like action of the credo.
