  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

I've used both a Palio, & the Xikar's alot... I personally have a S.T. Dupont, Wolf V-cutter, & a Vector Punch on my keychain.

But... My opinion between the Palio & the Xikar, is that the Palio is a better cutter.

I have used the credo on the link and while its appearance is nicer its closure mechanism isn't convenient or reliable, my old one broke. If you choose the credo, my recommendation is to stick with the lower end plastic one it cuts just as well and costs much less.

Ultimately, you're probably going to want a decent cutter of each main style:

Scissors
Guillotine
Punch
V-cut

The only one off the above list I don't have is a V-cut. Some people swear by them, so I'll have to find one sometime.

Lately, I've been really into my scissors (Swiss-army). I just skim off the outside wrapper from the cap--it ends up being a slightly larger "punch" cut in effect. If the draw's not to my liking, I roll it a bit, and if it's still off I just cut it higher. I like the scissors because it's much more if a finesse/fine-tuning cutter--like the difference between a single torch lighter and a triple or quad torch.

Here's the one I have:

I've got v cutters, Xikar, Palio, scissors, and punches... all of them.

And let me tell you, I use them all. It depends on what I am smoking or doing... sometimes I punch or vcut, esp if it is one of the better sticks with mixed size filler. If I feel more like the cigar "ritual", I grab the scissors and take my time giving the little guy a haircut. But, if I am just going out to smoke... then I grab the palio and call it good. I have been using my Xikar almost exclusively since I got it (off fleabay, and cheap too) they are a great cutter.

BUT - once I recently purchased a palio, though, it all changed. It took some getting used to because the actions and feel in your hand are different between palio and xikar, but for me, the Palio has just been a cut above... heh heh.

Go to a shop with both and put them in your hands. That will help you decide.... find a brother who will let you use his on a stick next time you smoke together... nothing qrong with a test drive.
