BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE
Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.
Cutting a Cigar!?

To start out with I would sugest a double bladed cutter. Invest in a decent one either a Palio (my favorite) or a Xikar. Punches are fine but don't work for all cigars. I don't mind a notch cutter either but not all the time. Alot of brothers love scissors but I think they are attached to the ritual of them as much as anything else. The more you smoke I think you should try some of all types of cutters just to be sure what works for you.

pretty much personal preference, but i'd bet most of us don't use punch cuts. i've tried it in the past and eventually the rest of the cap tends to come off. just take a nice sharp slice off the end! it'll work on any stick.

Ha-ha!!! And I think you're talking out of your ass! :rofl: Do you own scissors?
I've got a Palio and a SAK (scissors) and I use the SAK because it makes a sharper, cleaner, evener, more perfect cut than a Palio.
Use a SAK for a while and you'll find it difficult to use anything less precise--nothing to do with the ritual of it.

OK I am lazy. I sent my xikar scissors to Jay. I just never could get into them. I am a bit of redneck too so when the palio isn't handy a finger nail has been known too work. I tend to chomp on cigars a bit much so the cut looks like shat in a few minutes anyways.

I sure thought we did. I take no offense to it I would expect him to say it to me in person if possible too. I think that text comes accross harsher then it needs to some times and in person would never be as politically correct as we are here.

It wasn't said in hate or with any mean-ness whatsoever. In fact, I'm pretty sure I was smiling and giggling when I typed it.
That is PRECISELY correct....I meant no offense by it, and I didn't think he'd take offense to it. Hell, it was mostly said in jest for the sake of humor! LOL

I use both the MTX (more precise) & a Palio (quick & sharp)...

If the head is rounded or tapered (as are 90% of cigars) and the ring size is over 36 or so, I will use a guillotine cutter to expose about 1/2 to 2/3rds of the core tobacco. I don't like to "challenge" a cigar to supply smoke to me. If the end is very blunt (which would mean slicing anything off the cap would expose almost all the tobacco) or a smaller ring gauge warrants some draw restriction is needed, I will use suture scissors to carefully cut a very small hole (3/16th inch or so for thinner vitolas) in the end.

As has been said try out as many as you can. B&M's usually have an assortment of cutters and when you buy a cigar from them ask to use one of their cutters,,,try a different one every time. I did this years ago and was sold on the BostonCutter as it always made a perfect cut ( Cats Eye ). When I found out how much it was I almost cried until I bought the "Little Guy" cutter and that was 10 years ago. It still cuts perfectly and you can use it on just about any cigar,,,yes, even torps.

To learn how it should be, ye can also get a Tatuaje cutter (double blade) which has a bottom to avoid cutting more than it should. Ye can also do it by laying a cutter on the table; but some cutters aren't appropiate for this (i.e. Palio).
