Moving up from 145 to 170 proved to be too much for McGregor. Diaz submitted him in the 2nd round. Diaz is hardly in the top tier of the 170 lb weight class either. Can you imagine what Robbie Lawler would do to him? McGregor is truely dangerous at 145. That is where he belongs as long as he can make the weight cut, which is becoming increasingly more difficult for him.

I kind of think mcgregor would do extremely well at 155 because it's not a huge jump like 170. How do you think he would have done against dos anjos? I think he could beat him

Dos Anjos would've killed McGregor. Dos Anjos is more skilled, and he easily beat Diaz. I would really like to see McGregor fight Pettis. Conor should really stay at 145. A lot of times when you go up in weight the punching power you had at a smaller weight class doesn't follow you as you move up in weight. Mayweather is the perfect example of this as he knocked fighters out at 130 and 135, but at 147 he didn't have the same power.

Good points. I didn't see the Diaz v dos anjos fight. You could tell mcgregors power didn't come with him tonight he cut Diaz but he didn't really seem hurt. He has a good chin also

Glad to see the arrogance knocked down a peg or two, even if it was at a weight that mcgregor should have never been fighting at. Hopefully this sets up a rematch at 155. That would be a much more interesting match

Probably best to change the title of this thread so you don't spoil it for anyone that was going to watch the fight later

I get what you are saying, but social media being what it is today. A person would have to live under a rock to avoid knowing the outcome.

So McGregor came in at 168ish and Diaz probably stepped in closer to 190 after water protocol. Skills aside that's a big weight difference.
You don't usually gain 21 lbs overnight. Usually it's 10-12 from rehydration. I don't know if Diaz even gained that much. He normally fights at 155, so his natural weight is probably 175.

McGregor was almost beat by Chad Mendez, who took the fight on short notice. MacGregor can be beat by an elite wrestler, even at 145 and most certainly at higher weight classes. MacGregor is a world class striker, but grappling is a hole in his game. The UFC is a Darwinian environment and the predators that thrive there will find that weakness and exploit it.

Honestly I don't follow all this much so from what I read I thought the guy normally fought at 170. If he normally fights at 155 then yea he probably sits around 175. Cool read on how these guys manipulate their water weight for anyone interested....
