  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Did I screw up these Bovedas

What would you do with these Boveda packs?

I cleaned my garage today and found that I had left two Boveda packs in recharge mode all winter. They have been out there since probably September so have been frozen and thawed who knows how many times. I have also never seen a Boveda so full of moisture...they're freakin huge.

I guess my only concern is mold. I don't know what kind of mold inhibitor Bovedas have and they don't seem to smell musty, but before I return them to service or the trash can I thought I would get the collective opinion. Use them or trash?

For the love of God just throw it away, fucking up good cigars with a $2 boveda would be a damn shame.
I have to be thrifty so I can relate why you might want to save it but I gotta agree might not be worth messing up a humidor full of cigars to save 5$ you could leave it out in the open and see if it releases back down after a while and if it seems to be working you could throw it in a zip lock w a few dog rockets and see or dissect it and report back! Was there any mold in your Tupperware?

Or the cold has subtly broken the two way barrier and they'll be too humid. If you have a good hygrometer put it and the boveda in a Sammy bag for a week and check.

No mold or any evidence of ill effects other than being so bloated they want to burst. Even though the majority think they are fine, I think I may error on the side of caution and toss these two. It does show the bastards work!

They just have more charge.
Leave them outside the humi to release some of this water for a while. The boveda was just doing its job; no need to trash it.

I have had a small boveda do that on me when I forgot I was recharging it with a large 85% boveda. Its back to normal size and kicking.

Wow. Never seen one get so fat. I've had em plump up beyond factory fill, but never that far.

I have doubts that they're gonna regulate within specs.

But you've got an experiment to share with us now. If you dont want to follow through, pm me and I'll trade you 2 for 2.

Id like to see whathappens in a sealed container or a cheapo humidor over time with these.
