Hey the police are listed on the city website too. I wonder how much you need to pay for their service.

It kind of sounds like the mob runs this town?

You shoulda paid your 75 bucks if you wanted our protection

No, Michael, it just makes no sense to debate this any further. You and others on this thread simply refuse to accept the reality that this is private enterprise and you want to be able to infringe on their right to handle their business as they see fit. You want your morality forced upon them. Others want lawyers and legislators to get involved. This issue is about liberty in all of its raw ugliness. You either want it or you do not. The guy pays the $75 or you believe that socialism should win out in this case. . .It takes the resources of others to bring about a forced legislative solution. You have to take from someone. As I said, it is all about whose ox is being gored.

The New Mission State of the South Fulton Fire Department

"The mission of the South Fulton Fire Department is to protect the lives and property of its customers, and let others put out their own fires if they failed to pay the $75.00."

BTW Did anyone find a link that shows they are not a government run Fire Department? I never heard of such a thing. What city does not have their own Fire Department? That is nutz!!

Our taxes, at least mine, should be spent protecting Americans, and ensuring our livelihood. here is where I hope for them to pay. And in no particular order:e

Fire
Cops
Military
Health
Education

This is where I want my tax dollar spent.

Agreed, except I would exchange "roads" for the healthcare. As long as I'm able to drive myself to the hospital, I'll pay my own bills.

I agree except for Health. I don't trust them with my family's health. They will need to do a better job with health care then they do with education or we will have a lot of dead bodies piled up.

But you might need some health care when I get done with you :boxing:

I can't find anything saying they are a privately owned Fire Dept. Do you have a link for that? I just want to read more about that.

They are on the city website link

This is their Mission Statement:

"The mission of the South Fulton Fire Department is to protect the lives and property of its citizens, and provide good public relations through fire safety education to all businesses and schools."

Did they live up to that? I think they need to change their mission statement.

If they are a privately run Fire Department, did the City let its citizens down by contracting a Fire Contractor who was not looking out for every citizen? Is this the city's fault for a bad contract?

I am the last one to promote socialism (as the brothers in the BOTL Politics Thread know). I am not saying they should have put out the fire for free. Since he did not pay his $75.00, he should be charged with the costs + penalties. If this was a 3rd world country I would understand, but this is America. I am not sure what is wrong here without knowing all the facts, but I do know this should never happen in America.

Even if it is a simple as incorporating the fees for the Fire Department in property taxes and city taxes. As far Fire, Police and Military go, this is the role I want for our government, not running car companies, over regulation and government run healthcare.
It was the South Fulton CITY FD and hero who burned down his doublewide is a County citizen. If you have a gripe with anyone take it up with his elected County officials. They are who have made the decision that a county FD is not warranted.

lol there's a video of this guy being interviewed on CNN today

http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/us/2010/10/06/am.cranick.home.burns.cnn?hpt=T2

Most interesting part (to me) was that his son's house caught fire 3 years ago - AND THEY HADN'T PAID THE $75 FEE - but the fire dept attended and put it out that time and let them pay the fee the next day. You'd think that might have taught them a lesson?

The mayor's comment about trying to buy car insurance only after you have an accident is pretty much how I feel on this one too.

This guy is definitely playing the victim. First up his property is outside the jurisdiction of the fire dept so they have no obligation to attend. Secondly, sounds like he habitually didn't pay the subscription fee for the service and took for granted the fact that the department would respond in case of an emergency and he could get away with sending them a cheque the following day just in case.

Put out the fire. It would have been the right thing to do. For people who don't want to pay the annual required fee, there are laws in many jurisdictions where such things can be tacked on to the real or personal property assessment. I just can't believe they would let it burn. If I had been on that VFD, I would have quit in protest. That's what you're there for, isn't it? I guess I'm getting liberal in my old age.
