Well, upon searching I haven't seen anything posted about a "DIY" blank cigar band. Now I for one, am not here to try to take away from someone in the business. Also, hopefully this thread is in the right spot. If it violates any of the rules or is posted in the incorrect area on the forum, mods please move or remove this at your discretion.
A few nights ago, with a little down time, I was running ideas through my head on how I can make my own blank cigar bands that everyone can get locally from Staples, Office Max or anywhere you can buy stationary products and on a cheap budget. Now, I know there's a link somebody posted on BOTL of someone who makes them, but it seemed like it has to be a massive group buy and only occurs once year if I'm not mistaken. If I'm posting that incorrectly, please let me know so I can edit to share the correct information.
Now, granted, I've been bombed beyond belief here from generous brothers in my 8 months of joining such an amazing brotherhood. I've also noticed that I see these blank bands written with your name, date, who gifted you the cigar etc. or other information written on them. For me, I found it useful to see the aging of the cigar and also as a reminder to thank a brother for the cigar when posting a picture here in the forum, but having an epic fail of forgetting who gifted it to me. Yes, that's happened all too often lately, for me at least.
I was herfing last night with Matt (@loopforever) and was telling him my idea. Now I'm sure some of you might of thought of it or maybe do it already. I figured since I had a few smokes unlabeled on who gifted them to me and the hand to hand nuke Matt threw my way, I came home and needed to address this ASAP. So I figured tonight was the night to do it.
The materials needed: post it notes, scissors and scotch tape. Although, all I had handy was some masking tape which worked just as well.
Here we go, hopefully my directions don't suck too bad:
1. I cut the pieces "roughly" 1/4 inch maybe a little more or less from the top to bottom leaving the "stickiness" to the cut up pieces. Hopefully that makes sense. The sizing of how you cut the post-it notes is all up to you, depending on the ring gauge of the cigars and how big or small you can get your handwriting to go.
2. Now write whatever you like on the post it note. In my case, if I purchased the cigar myself, it has where I purchased it and the date of purchase. If I was gifted or "bombed" the cigar(s) I write who it was from (and their username if they're here on BOTL) or from a non-member friend, their name goes on it, with the date I was given the cigar(s).
3. Once that's complete, wrap the post it note around the cigar, hopefully the stickiness will stick to the other half of the post-it note. In my case, it didn't which the masking (or scotch) tape came in handy to seal it to the post it note itself.
And there you have it...DIY Post-It Note blank cigar labels. Hope some of you can find this as some useful and a cheaper alternative.
