  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Do all Lanceros and smaller RG sticks always burn hot?

I have noticed that I need to wait longer between puffs when I go Lancero compared to even small PCs. If not the flavors evaporate until it is allowed to cool. It would make sense considering the circumference is much smaller. However, if I don't consciously think about it, I ruin 10 minutes of the stick.:cursing:

That typical. It takes me quite a while to smoke a lancero. Lances are good when you are in groups, because you end up talking more and not thinking about the cigar. But yeah I typically take longer between puffs on a lance.

Yes, that's why ye need to take smaller, shorter puffs. Ye'll get the hang of it.

It really depends on the cigar. Often smaller RGs burn hotter, but some blends are still nice and cool even for lanceros (RP Fusion, just for 1 example). One easy way to counter it is to simply take drags less often, but then you end up walking the line between burning too hot and not staying lit, lol. But the bottom line is that you often (usually?) can't smoke them as fast as you would a larger RG vitola without them getting too hot--which not only can harm your palate but can cause the flavors to become bitter.

I find that the Tat Victorias, for example, is a tad hot but not "too" hot for me, but still stays lit just fine when I take a minute or more time between drags. I'm a pretty slow smoker, so I don't mind taking the time.

Heat is a major issue for me, but the flavor of lanceros still makes me smoke them when I can :)

The issue is more of a problem for smaller RG smokes, but I find ALL cigars smoke better when I smoke slower. Take your time on all cigars, they will be better that way.

...allowed to cool?

...if I don't consciously think about it?

There is the rub(s). You have to think about going slow and lighter on the draw or will heat up and ruin the flavors damn near every time. You have to make a conscious effort or the end result will always be the same.

You partially answered your own problem too with "I need to wait longer between puffs" That and do not puff as deeply as normal.

I believe that is why many people enjoy robustos and the jaw breakers ring gages since you can puff deeply and often (or other terrible draw techniques) without overheating and ruining the flavors.

Exactly! Enjoying a cigar is all about taking your time, relaxing, etc... not seeing who can look like the biggest chimney stack...
