  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Does your general mood affect what cigar you reach for?

I watched a video review of the La Riqueza. It was said that its a great lazy-Saturday/Sunday smoke. He was speaking the truth, I couldn't picture myself smoking my typical Padron Maduro on a lazy Sunday evening.

How about if your sad or depresssed about something, do you think you smoke a certain profiled cigar according to your mood?

Yes and no....I like A sized cigars and I really need to know that I have a good 3 hours to burn to grab for that.

the rest of the time I just go digging until I see something that i like at the moment.

Or is that anthropomorphic?
If you mean that the cigar chooses you, it's a 50/50 crap shoot. The same comparative could be associated to a beverage...why milk over OJ, soda or water? I'm sure it's not as abstract as that; the subconscious works a helluva lot faster than the conscious...a connection was made weighing the various factors of mood, time, and potential enjoyment well before you thought you decided on one particular smoke.

i smoke my good cigars when i 'm in a good mood. If i'm just msoking for the sake of having the available time, i'll grab whatever.

I've also sort of taken to the thoughts from that wine movie a few years ago...smoking a great cigar IS a special occasion...but now i' feel like im just rambling, so...

Mood totally affects my cigar smoking as does temperature, humidity, what I ate, smoked drink etc. If things are not going well I reach for a strong one that I know I will enjoy.

Usually it's the time I want to spend that determines the cigar. Not necessarily the time I have- I don't like to smoke with a clock ticking down before I have to do something- but how much time I want to spend with a cigar that given day.

I'll have to remember that one, I had a 17 hour work day on my feet recently, and when I came home I just starred at the humidor and couldn't make up my mind. Probably mostly due to the fact I started drinkin around hour 13:bottle:

But to answer the OP's question, I would say my mood definitely affects what I reach for.

The stick I go for usually depends on the time of day and probably what I've eaten.. other than that I've noticed sticks just don't taste the same if I'm in a bad mood.

Mood definitely affects cigar selection. On a normal day i am more likely to go for a normal "go to" stick. On a bad day when i feel like i really need to kick back and relax, a special cigar is in order. Likewise, early in the day i go for more mild bodied smokes whereas after a huge steak dinner i want something that will kick my ass.

The cigar I choose usually has to do with mood, what I ate, how the day is, when am I smoking and how much time I've got. This, and probably more things I'm not aware of consciously.

Yes time is of course a factor. If I only have 30 minutes, of course that limits me to minis. If I have a couple hours, I love A sized and am a sucker for anything with a HUGE ring (6 x 60s....mmmm).

But other than that, mood is the biggest factor. There was a time a couple weeks ago when I wanted to try out a specific cigar (CAO VR) to decide whether I wanted to buy more of them or not (there was a time-limit / sale situation going on). But for whatever reason what I really wanted to smoke was a 5 Vegas Gold. I smoked the VR I planned to smoke, but didn't enjoy it that much--mostly, i think, because I felt more like smoking the 5 Vegas.

So basically, my smoking experience was ruined because I went with my head instead of my heart. That sounded sort a sappy, but you get the picture.

Ever start thinking about a particular cigar - got the taste in your brain like a stuck song? That is the cigar that you are drolling for...

Then you get to the humidor open it up and....

Pick comething else?
