BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE
Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

I'd like a copy if possible. Dog in my future, I think...
My advice is to send the dog off to boot camp for a month and let them train him . Then all you have to do is reinforce the behavior.
Ive always trained my labs strictly by the book "Water Dog" by Richard Walters. Its a no nonsense direct and easy way to train any dog. The book has been around since the 70's and I know many people who have trained there dog by this book. It just takes 15 minutes a day every day. If you have the patience and time its worth a look at. If not, find a reputable trainer in your area.

What kind of training are you looking for? Books are great, but I highly recommend classes. The "boot camp" idea has its benefits, but the best trained dogs come from the best trained owners. I teach at a local Obedience club so I have some knowledge of what I speak.
I run a wife/girlfriend training camp for this as well.:tonguerol

My wife is a dog trainer at PETSMART. If you bring your dogs to Michigan I can have her train them!

We have an Italian Greyhound.....he's an absolute super dog! We also have a ShiPoo, (shitz-soo/poodle) that's also a great little dog, very loving.

Find a local school bro', it's well worth the time. No offense to TheCatMac or his wife, but I don't tend to recommend Petsmart. They tend to be more expensive than schools and you have a decent sized area dedicated to training/teaching. I can't speak for all Petsmarts, but the ones around here have about a 8-10' x 8-10' pen where everyone sits for instruction and then they tend to use the rest of the store when they need the space. Not the best training situation IMMHumbleO. Do a quick google for dog training clubs in your area and see if there are any nearby to check out. I don't know your exact location so I couldn't check things out, but I'm sure there are a ton.
Understand a couple of things. Petsmart teachers are "accredited", not certified. They love that word, but it means that Petsmart has said they are qualified, nothing more. On the plus side, that DOES mean they've received some extensive training. On the minus side, it doesn't necessarily mean that the trainers are all that experienced. If you are dealing with a dog training club, the people teaching you are constantly involved in training dogs and have titled their dogs in various Obedience trials. That kind of stuff involves things that are much more difficult than most everyday pet owners are going to need from their dogs. Further, Petsmart operates for a profit. Dog Training clubs are almost ECLUSIVELY not-for-profit entities. The people training you are volunteers and donate their time for reduced prices on trianing time (usually). You are dealing with someone who is there because they want to be, no because it is their job.
Understand, I'm not knocking all Petsmarts or all Petsmart trainers. I'm sure there are some absolutely wonderful trainers working at Petsmarts. All I'm saying is, do your research. Stop by a Petsmart while they are training. Do the same at a local club. Like everything else in this world, the best choice is an informed one. :thumbsup:

The vet recommended waiting until she gets her last rabies shot. She just turned 3 months on the 7th of March. I went to the AKC site and got some training clubs. There are a couple in the area we are going to check out and then choose the one we like best.
