  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Some months ago I bought a tin of Peterson's University Flake and recently discovered that the vacuum seal on the tin wasn't quite exactly vacuum tight. Resultantly, the tobacco was drier than it should have been and burned fast and hot, and gave out nothing but bitterness and tongue bite.

I've put the tobacco in a (mason-like) jar, along with my other tobaccos, with a water-pillow hydrating pouch. I use the same method on my cigars and I find that one pouch can easily keep about 30 cigars at the correct humidity. Tried the flake about three weeks after that and, albeit in a different pipe, it shows some small signs of improvement, but still far from being good.

Can anyone give any advice on the issue? Have I approached the problem in a correct fashion? How long does it take to re-hydrate a tin of tobacco?

Me, I don't go to those lengths. It works fine doing that. I just spread it out on a paper plate and mist it with distilled water from my water bottle, pack it and smoke it.
