  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

From a true OLD FART, I take 6 every day, plus eye drops for glaucoma. Blood pressure pills are critical, and being diabetic adds another pill. A lot of people hate taking pills. I love it, they keep me healthy and alive.

Very few - only when needed for pain / discomfort.

Vitamins are basically useless if you have a decent diet.
My wife also hates anti-biotics due to the yeast infections / intestinal problems they cause.

I'm 55 and have been taking the following for the respective reasons for quite a while:

Atenolol for BP

Crestor for Cholestrol

Enteric coated aspirin for the heart and general stuff

15 mg Lycopene forreducing macular degeneration and prostate cancer risks, and preventing LDL cholesterol oxidization, (which leads to heart disease and strokes).

20 mg Lutein as an antioxidant, protecting healthy cells from damage caused by free radicals, while also filtering out potentially-dangerous, high-energy blue light from the visible light spectrum.

1000 mg MSM. MSM (methylsulfonylmethane) is a natural and efficient source of organic sulfur, which is necessary for the formation of collagen, and is required by many of the body's structural molecules. MSM has been shown to be essential to joint health and function, and for all types of connective tissue in general. A proven analgesic and anti-inflammatory, this nutrient has been shown to be very effective in the treatment of allergies and asthma. It has also been found to provide nutritional support for healthy energy levels and toxin elimination. MSM is also effective at maintaining skin, hair and nail health.

100 mg CoQ10. Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10), or ubiquinone, is a naturally-occurring, vitamin-like nutrient in every cell of the body. Found in highest concentration in cell mitochondria (where energy is produced), its primary function is to help with the conversion of food and oxygen into energy. CoQ10 is also a powerful antioxidant and may help neutralize damage-causing free radicals.

Mega EFA - Omega-3 essential fatty acids (EFA's). They're believed to reduce the "stickiness" of blood cells (also known as platelet aggregation), promoting healthy circulation. Omega-3 EFA's are also known to contribute to neurological, or brain, health.

Glucosamine-Chondroitin - Your body uses glucosamine, a natural compound, to stimulate your cells to create one of the main building blocks of joint cartilage -- proteoglycans.

And finally a potent multivitamin for some additional BS.

Notta. I rarely get headaches. When the ole' back or neck hurts, a couple Advil or an Alieve works just fine. I prefer my medicine in the liquid form of beer.

I'm 43 and I'm down to my inhaler and Zoloft. Advil when my knees ache (arthritis) or Excedrine for headaches. At one point back in 1999 I was on:

Prilosec/Prevacid for acid reflux - surgery eliminated that
Inhaler for Asthma caused by GERD - still on that
Vioxx for my knees - recalled and removed from the market
BP meds - stopping the Vioxx returned my BP to normal
Paxil for severe anxiety disorder - Zoloft does a better job
Bentyl for gall bladder spasms - GB removed this year - no more pain or spasms

I have Ativan for panic attacks but I haven't needed it in over a year.

I also have a CPAP machine for sleep apnea. It's not a drug but it is a lifesaver.

Geezzzz.... what ever happened to growing old gracefully???

:)
