  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Hey guys so after months of using everything from matches to quad torches i've settled that my next lighter will be a double torch. It just seems to fit exactly what i need without the extras

So i have found 4 lighters from a few companies and i wanted to see if the brothers have any input that could help me past my roadblocked decision!

Here is what i have narrowed to for now:
(Looking for something sleek easy function with the ability to stay lit for long periods of time without toasting my hand as well)

First 2 Xikar
- From what i find everyone loves the company and i have had a "Pipeline" lighter from them used with my occasional pipe bowl and have had nothing but love for that lighter.
Both seem like solid options from a reputable company. Opinions??

**For sake of comparison i will be displaying prices from e-lighters while i will look for best deal when purchase happens**

Xikar "Axia" Dual Torch - $59.99
http://www.elighters.com/xi540g2.html

Xikar "XTX" Dual Torch - $55.99
http://www.elighters.com/xi532sl.html

Next up Colibri
- I get mixed reviews everywhere from these guys. Im not the most worried about customer service but i do want a lighter that i can RELY on. Chances are if it fails multiple times it is dead to me forever!...i hold grudges
BUT i REALLY do like the fact that the flames are aimed together as i typically smoke smaller ring gauges and seems would help accuracy of light. Opinions?

Colibri "Voyager" Dual Torch - $63.99
http://www.elighters.com/li400d001.html

Lastly Visol
- This company i have no knowledge of. Reviews seem scattered but typically pretty good. This lighter appears new as i can't find any reviews from it but the interesting design and price point DEFINITELY caught my eye. Opinions?

Visol "Infinity" Dual Torch - $35.99
http://www.elighters.com/vlr501408.html

Now i do realize alot of people will suggest the reliability of St.Dupont, Prometheus, Dunhill etc. BUT i am looking to keep the purchase around $50

Thanks guys figured after weeks of online research i'd probably get more information from the decades of knowledge in the brotherhood!

Out I the ones you have listed I would keep with Xikar because of their warranty. I now only use single flame lighters as to not scorch the wrapper and light slower for better flavor profiles.

Any recommendation on single flame torches? The one i used regularly was from JetLine and really didn't perform to what i hoped would be interested in trying another

Based on past notions, I've seen a lot of folks finding luck on the site formerly known as unholy cocktail - where you can find single/double/triple torch lighters of well repute for under $20.

I second Field supply, I've ordered from there several times no drama. Really like their dual torch. Of the 3 mentioned at the top of the thread, don't see how you can go wrong with the Xikar

I'll third field supply... Any given week they'll put a handful of torches on sale to the point of being ridiculously cheap.. If your budget is $50.. You can easily pick up 2-4 torches (including shipping).. And have spares laying around..

Stay away from colibri IMO... It's not about poor customer service.. It's about a crap product... The most expensive torch I've owned, a gift from my wife, was a high end colibri that she dropped about $125 on... It flat died after about 12 months..

I've got jetlines, ronsons, etc.. Torches that I have less than $10 in.. That are 5+ years old and still going strong...

While I can't tell you which one to go with I can tell you which one not to go with and that would be the Colibri. I spent a small fortune on a top of the line Colibri lighter which stopped working shortly after I got it. I sent to their customer service for repair, there was no communication at all while it was at their service center. it then showed up on my doorstep with a note stating it was fixed. Filled it with fluid, still not working. Called them, they suggested returning again and I ditched it versus paying UPS fees yet again.

Well after much consideration i've come to this. I have several torch lighters that fall in the realm of what field supply offers in general. This search is for my new "prized" lighter, and im willing to spend a few extra $$ for some quality.
That said and everyones input i think Xikar is the obvious choice for me.
I've narrowed it down to these 2 lighters and just a matter of pulling the trigger!

I sell both of these models in my shop and the Axia is superior in reliability. If you prefer not having to open the lid, which the Axia requires, look at the ELX and Escalade models. Something is just off about the XTX, to the point that they discontinued the single flame version altogether. Obviously, the warranty will cover any problems, but who wants to have to take in a broken lighter if they don't have to?

Awesome man i really appreciate the advice. You are just who i was hoping to reach with the post!

I would like to have one similar to the Axia but with an opening lid.
The ELX and Escalade are nice but i am really hoping for some sort of side ignition system for this lighter. Any expert advice?

I use the Axia as my daily lighter. It is slim enough to hold in the coin pouch of your jeans. It has a nice heft, and it really isnt a big concern to flip the lid open. I use the ELX frequently too. Even though it has a button on top it does have a self opening lid and an added punch cutter. Good Luck.

The Enigma used to have a self opening lid, but they re-engineered it a year or so ago, now you have to flip it open. There really isn't a one touch double torch other than XTX with a side ignition.

My advice would be to go with the XTX and if it doesn't work out, return it to Xikar requesting the Axia as replacement.

Just ordered a xikar executive single torch in the mean time. Waiting and trying to decide still on double. Really liking the ones that angle towards each other
