  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

It was so weird. I was at the exit of the costco where they check your receipt and it felt like I was on a boogie board for 5 or 6 seconds. Then you look and people are running out screaming like a Godzilla movie. It was so mild and the duration was short maybe 10 sec max? Then again, I've been in a few earthquakes in Japan and there, you actually have to hold on and things really shake! This felt like a mild case of vertigo. Anyone hear of one in Colorado about the same time? G1
...Godzilla? ...Japan? :eyebrow:

(I almost used the "squinteye" smilely but I figured it'd be too much)

Also, I'm japanese so I can make jokes :tonguerol

Heard from my Mom who is across the river from Philly. She is from CA so she wasn't over excited, but said everyone at work went pretty much crazy.

My sister in New York texted me saying her building swayed. I am glad everyone is alright.

I'm on the 4th floor and the whole building was rolling. Went outside for and hour plus. Currently having a very stiff drink. The first thing thats goes through your head is looking for a flash. Shit like this isn't supposed to happen on the east coast.

tweets immediately after the earthquake>>......

August 23, 2011

@TPCarney: Krugman says it wasn't big enough.

@comradescott: Evidently the quake occurred on a little known fault line outside of DC called "Bush's Fault". #tcot #p2

@calebhowe: Breaking: Obama administration points out they "inherited" fault lines from previous administrations.

@MaizeBlueNation: Fox News claims the Washington monument is leaning to the right, MSNBC claims it's leaning to the left. More news at 11.

@charliespiering: I won't stop shaking until Obama makes a speech telling me that everything is ok and that he has a plan

@Ben_Howe: As all of DC leaves work at the same time, the United States experiences a brief economic recovery.

@daveweigel: Was all set to loot in Dupont circle, then realized all we have are taco and cupcake stores.

I felt it, thought I was crazy at first...

Devastation resulting from earthquake:

:hysterica
We could definitely feel it here (Western West Virginia) but it did not cause this much devastation

Lucky us it will take some time to clean up that mess Better call FEMA.

The Geography Police has to correct an error here: The Angelinos were crying about the freeway closure, while the rest of us Californians mocked them or handed them handkerchiefs...

Still, 5.8 is sizable, considering the area where the quake hit... it doesn't hold a flame to the '94 Northridge quake (which I lived through in Northridge, before gettin' the heck outta dodge), or that World Series quake in the Bay Area/Loma Linda quake.

While I find the tweet funny, we are talking about one of the busiest sections of freeway in the country, and the only ones who made a big deal of it, were the media. And by doing so, they people of California responded very favorably. We avoided "carmagedon" and did so by acctully walking in LA.

either way, earth quakes suck, but i'll take them over a tornado anyday.
