  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Effects of RH when smoking outside?

Really wet & humid day here in the Pacific NW. Wondering how much if any it effects the way my cigars burn. I've tried a couple of cigars today that I know I've let dry & rest right, but both draw tight and burn slowly. I've also smoked the exact same vitolas with zero issues in the past.

Is it all in my head or does the ambient RH play that big of a role? Current weather reports 86pct humidity.

edit: as a test I moved my space heater up close to the ashtray my T52 is resting on. Seemed to massively improve the draw but the wrapper is unravelling like I've seen with severly over-humidified cigars.

In my experience, high ambient humidity makes a cigar burn slowly or go out, especially the wrapper. It doesn't happen in the beginning, but the further down the stick you smoke (= the longer the cigar is exposed to the ambient humidity), the worse it gets.

Agree that high humidity effects burn; especially maduro. I will smoke a smaller Connecticut natural in this type weather to compensate; as they are not as adversely effected.

Indeed. I smoke only small cigars like Firecrackers and Party Shorts when it's real wet out. Never any maddies. It's uncanny how quickly high humidity affects the burn.

I live just south of you and smoked a Liga #9 last night around 10:30pm and didn't have any problems, was a perfect burn. It was obviously drier and colder at night time though...

Brother .. Its not only what temp or humidity you are smoking in, it is the variance from the environment it was in right before. Example, if your box is real dry and you go to smoke in very humid environment, than, boom ... fuckd. ... and visa versa.

Makes sense. (and explains why my Undercrown split today in the 40 degree weather after having been in a cozy 65/65 for a month) It was awesome anyways though.

Right on target here. Was a humid night, last night. Was smoking a Punch cigar and it was a very slow burner...towards the end I couldn't even keep it lit. I really dislike living in Houston, too bad this is where all the jobs are...:disappoin
