Electric Heater for garage suggestions

With winter on the way, I'm banished to the garage for smoking. Can anyone recommend some cheap electric heaters to keep things toasty while smoking in the garage?

I use a propane heater. The type you just screw on to a five gallon tank. It works great. I tried electric heaters, but they didn't put out much heat.

Propane powered heaters are great heaters! Don't forget to check out craigslist & Ebay for some good deals!

Thanks for the suggestions! I shall give up on an eclectic heater, and take a closer look at craigslist and ebay for propane. If I come up empty handed, a trip to costco may be in the cards.

How many hours do you guys get out of a 5lb tank?

The big hardware store tanks usually do around 50 hours I believe.

I use that same model, and it rocks. But I live in Socal, so my garage is wide open and at the coldest it's 40 degrees outside.

A tank usually lasts me through the entire winter, but I'm in Northern California. There are times when I don't need to use it.

ps you better shut up or when you come over to smoke i will put up a wall to block any heat from entering your area and then you can smoke in the cold!

You Michigan brother (OK, all of you) need to come up to Big Rapids on a Tuesday night to our weekly heft at the Ghost Town Saloon. We build it in the back yard of one of our members (Big Rapids Cigar Club) place. The old pot belly stove will be going and it nice and toasty.

The parabolic works great for individuals. It heats objects not necessarily the air. I have tried ceramic with good results. I found the most cost effective but also the slowest was an oil filled electric. Looks like and old radiator but I ran one all winter in the pool room in Grand Rapids just in case the heat pump failed.

I concur, But caution if you do any woodworking be very careful sawdust is dangerous around these things, But for the price these are the kings of staying toasty.

Last winter I used both an electric and propane heater. The propane in my opinion threw off way more heat so I would say that's the way to go. I live in Michigan too and last winter in my garage it was in the teens easily at times. If it weren't for that propane heater I never would have been able to enjoy a stogie. Don't get me wrong...it's not going to make your garage seem like a summer day but it does take some of the chill out.

We open the back window with a fan in it and crack the front door, two ceilling fans. It works pretty good. Even with the door open the old pot belly stove still keeps it about 75-80 degrees in the room. I look forward to you coming. We will put on a mid winter herf and the guys from Holland come up to this. I'll keep you posted.

And in my "office in the corner of my garage (8ft x 12ft) I installed this on a thermostat so it won't ever drop below 45 degrees... I store my paint and glue and such in the office, this makes sure it doesn't freeze. For the space this guy rocks.

Hasn't gotten ridiculously cold here yet, but both options took the chill out of my INSULATED garage very very quickly during their maiden voyages.

Chuck is right, these work great and are not expensive.
