  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

I lost my nicest lighter while I was in Miami. I need something for when I am stepping out in style. I don't want to spend the money for a S.T. Dupont.

The lighter I lost was a Colibri Flint Jet. I kind of like the flint style lighters but I am open.

It was similar to this:

I liked it because it wore really well. It did not get scratched up or show any marks.

What do you carry? Have you seen a good deals lately? Any ideas?

Man sorry about you loosing your lighter. I thought that was nice one, was the first flint type lighter I had tried. I have been using the cheap ronson one lately.

Not to be a label-whore, but I recommend Xikar!

That aside, I also recommend against Colibri, but that's just from personal experience with their newer stuff and a substantial amount of let-downs.
I did not have any trouble with my last two Calibris. But they were both flint lighters around the $100 price point. I have had issues with less expensive Calibris. But I think I might give Xikar a try this time around.

Love the Xikar Exodus...yes I know it's a soft flame but trust me...the flame is like something on steroids and is windproof. When the winds are too much I resort to my trusty Ronson. Both lighters can be had for less than $40 and you'll never need a lighter again unless you lose them.

I love "accessories....holy crap. CIGARY43! What the hell man?! I can't conc3ntr9t on tiping with that d@nm avatass stairing at me!

OK, back to focusing. I love "accessories", but the only cigar I'll ever have from here on out, if I can help it, is an ST Dupont. Of course, that assumes I never have to buy another one! Seriously though, it's the flat out, bar none, best lighter I've ever had.

Aye, I'm planning on picking up a Dupont Maxijet Xtend, after reading so much good about it, but I'm still a Xikar fan, through and Through.

As for the Flintfire II being discontinued, that's true - But there is 1 or 2 of them at the B&M near me. I'm snapping it up as soon as the funds arrive!

Some really nice lighters mentioned here. I use a XiKar EX (the windproof soft flame) most of the time. I want to get my hands on one of those Savinelli Double Coronas too. If I had all the money in the world I'd invest in a S.T.Dupont Ligne II. Alas, I am poor.

I have the S.T. Dupont Maxijet/Xtend. Fantastic torch. I got it on cbid for about $100. A christmas present to myself a year ago, and it's been great all year.

I am in the market for a multi-torch, though. I love having a single torch for a smaller sticks and touch-ups and wind, but I'd love a multi-torch for quick light-ups. I'm thinking about the Xikar Ellipse II which I tried out at Tobacco Grove the other day. It sounded like a jet engine and lit my Face in about 2 seconds, lol (my cigar, that is).

All of the suggestions are good ones, but just to keep things interesting, let me add a couple of options. First, Vector makes a soft-flame, flint wheel butane insert for Zippo lighters called the Thunderbird. If you have a Zippo that you like, that's the cheapest way to get a good soft flame butane lighter.

Second, Blazer makes a line of 1060's-retro-looking lighters that work really well. Check them out at http://www.blazerproducts.com/lighters/prince.html I have a couple of them.
