  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Was just laughing about this privatively with BDC30, as he asks if I've smoked any of the sticks we traded, and my response is usually NO.

I have this little thing, where I don't want to smoke the last stick of something. :dunno: I especially don't want to smoke it just for the sake of smoking it. Like I need a special occasion or something, cause then it will be all gone. Basically hoarding my singles.

I then realized I have the same thing in the opposite end of the spectrum where I don't want to smoke the first out of a new box, because the box will then be incomplete. Its like I need to do a box split to get me to smoke something as it's not my first or last of that cigar.

Curious if anyone else has this disorder or am I just crazy? :scratchhe

If I have a sealed box, I'll want a 5er or so in order to stop me from cracking open the box for that same reason. I think we just have OCD.

Rub the cello...rub the cello...it's so purrrdy

I think everyone thinks about that last stick if it's a good one. But if it is ready to be smoked then why collect it.... smoke it and enjoy a good cigar. There will be plenty of "last ones" to come.

As far as the new box, that one doesn't bother me because you'll have a bunch left after smoking that one.

SAME... Thought I was the only one.

If I got 10x of one cigar and 1x left of another, I'll go for the cigar with 10x trying to ration my last of a kind for something special.

I JUST did this right now. Wanted my last LFD Ligero really bad, then saw a CAO Mx2 which I have 8 of. Went with the CAO Mx2. My Humidor just looks so nice with a variety of cigars in it.

I do that all the time. I have 2 RASS' left from 08, and I don't know what I am going to do more....contemplate smoking them every time I open the humi, or wonder if I am going to contemplate smoking them lol.
I think that when you acquire more sticks, it gets easier smoking lasts and firsts as you have so much more to fall back on. I was extremely careful with all my sticks, and not wanted to smoke any of them when I first got on BOTL as I didn't have a ton of stuff. Now that I have acquired a few more :halfgrinw sticks, I don't have such a problem opening new boxes or finishing other stuff.

I buy a couple of boxes and do a box split for a 5er with the same box code.

When I open a new box, I take a 5er out and put it in storage and then I order another box....

Life is too short to hold on to "that cigar" as it was previously stated, "that cigar" in whatever iteration it comes, will come again. Smoke 'em if you got em is my take.

The gate for me is always time. I sometimes want to set aside time to really enjoy the smoke without distraction in order to determine if was "that cigar".

So, again I say...smoke em.

I smoke em when they taste good, regardless of how many I have. T110's for example. Bought some, smoked em all, bought some more, smoked all them too. Glad I did because they have lost some pop and were better fresh. I kind of wish I would have smoked this last Frank I have when it was perfect. Now I'll probably keep it since it's pretty and I know from the last one I smoked it's lost some pop. I love strong NC's, though. Not enough Cuban experience to comment...

It's funny, when I first started on BOTL (and smoking, for that matter) I did the exact same thing. If I got an OpusX or Cohiba I would stare at it every time I opened the humidor but never smoke it. A couple things happened this past summer that made me realize just how short life can be and how precious our time is. From that point on, I burned a pile of Opus/Padron 45ths/Cubans/Tats etc.

The only stuff I still have in my humi untouched are a couple of unopened vintage 5packs from the 1950's that I picked up. Can't bring myself to crack the cello and burn those...plus the wife would kill me...lol

Or just give that Frank to a newbie:)

Back to the topic, I smoke the last cigar in most cases... Except an A Turrent Triple Play gran toro and padilla habano torpedo for some reason I can't bring myself to smoke because they're the only ones I have.

If I had some vintage stuff like that, I would always put off smoking till I died.

I have had this discussion with several of the guys that I routinely smoke with. I have the same problem. I hate to smoke a cigar unless I have at least three of them, that way I can have another if I like the first and then still have one left for that special occasion.

Wouldn't you like to know?
I love the experience of smoking sticks I may never see again. Each cigar is an experience and I am not willing to wait to see how they may or may not turn out. I try to smoke the best I have whenever I have the time to truly enjoy it.

I can totally relate to JNT's sentiments here. I don't generally buy boxes, but I hate breaking up a 5 or 10 pack. I have a lot of sticks in my collection that I have 1-3 of. I sometimes feel like I should finish some of those first before I break up any more "whole units".

I'm less sentimental about the last one of something. If it was something really awesome I'll save it for a special occasion, but I'm not real picky about special occasions. Usually "got through a rough week" or "haven't had an awesome cigar in a while" is plenty justification.

When I find a cigar I just can't smoke, I give it away or trade it for something I can smoke. OK, I don't really think that way, but that's what I did with my last two Tat black CG (from jar) and I don't even miss them.
