I might be bad at this, but hey...we can't all win the review contests right?
So I sat down with the much talked about, much hyped, Tatuaje Black yesterday...already aware that my expectations for this cigar were probably too high. Of course, that wasn't going to stop me from smokin' it! I snagged this particular one from one of Ocat's MANY "yummmy" sales.
Appearance/Pre-light: 15/15
It may have been the hype or it could have been my love of all things simple, whatever the reason, the think looked fantastic. I dig the somewhat black-n-tan appearance of this thing.
Ash: 8/10
The ash held strong for a cigar of this ring guage. It was never a problem but the tendency to flake was a MINOR distraction. The color was.......gray. Meh, I don't smoke these for the ash!
Draw: 10/10
The draw on this baby was perfect! 'Nuff said.
Burn: 9/10
The burn of a cigar is tough for me. Being still somewhat new to leaf (a couple years into it), it's still sometimes hard for me to discern if a burn problem exists because of how I lit it, how I stored, or a fault of the cigar. Whatever the cause, it can be a huge distraction. Fortunately, the Black burned well. I didn't count, but less than a handful of touch-ups.
Smoke: 9/10
Not a TON of smoke here, but more than plenty. The color escapes me. (Hey, I was distracted by the Flavor!)
Flavor: 18/20
As I took in the first third of this cigar a mild panic set in...."yep, the expectation was to high." In fact, I was regretting having already purchased a handful more of these. After coming back to reality, I settled into this thing and was determined to see it through. And yep....REALLY glad I did. The remainder of this was one heck of treat. (Describing flavors and all that will hopefully come with a continued effort to refine the palate and smoking a variety of sticks.) A ding for making me think I might have made a mistake in the first third, but I nubbed it!
Uniqueness: 8/10
A category that, like some other brothers here, I struggle with. Most cigars are unique to me...even if they are uniquely bad! :hammersma A standard rating for me.
Finish: 13/15
Another tough category for me, as I tend to either eat, get a mint, or brush my teeth (for my wifey's sake) not long after enjoying my cigars. That said, DEFINITELY nothing bad about this finish.
Total: 91
Yummy indeed Ocat. Now how long can I wait before grabbing another.................
