  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Hey guys... wondering which kind of Cigar lighter to ask for this Christmas. Any suggestions? Also, is a soft flame better than a torch for an reason other than indoor/outdoor use?

Torch is what I have, but I've been looking into getting a soft flame butane lighter as well. I usually smoke outside and it's pretty windy most nights on my third floor balcony, so the torch does it for me quite well.

You don't have to go all out on a lighter. I'd rather spend my money on sticks than on a lighter. I spent $15 on a clearance lighter at my B&M and it holds up great.

I hear that. I would rather have some nice sticks as well. I will check out my local B&M.

Or better yet, get a Ronson Jet Light. I love mine . I prefer the torch for touch ups and in windy conditions. Otherwise I don't mind using my Bic. So I'd go with a torch personally as I seem to use that more.

Best of both worlds in one lighter: http://www.stogietorch.com/

They actually work and hold up - unlike a lot of the other switchable flame lighters. Pete, the vendor, is a cigar smoker and real stand up guy from everything I've seen.

S.T. duPont Xtend torch with the best lighter fluid is all I ever use. You can get a cheap Ronson torch at Walmart for about 20 bucks I think. Can't beat the price and reliability of those puppies.

Heh, I also typically use a bic most of the time.

A few other options in the Ronson price class:

http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.1320
http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.4179
http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.1455

They hold up fairly well. My experience has been that they are on par with any other sub $20-25 lighter and better than some $50 *cough*colibri*cough* lighters.

The first two hold more fuel than the Ronson, but you need a scewdriver to adjust the flame. The last one probably holds about as much fuel as the Ronson, although, unlike the Ronson, you can see how much you have left. Flame adjustment on the bottom one does not require any tools (the bottom rotates).

The ronsons are actually $2.98 @ every wal-mart I've seen them in. I bought a bunch a while back to use when flying, torches are supposed to be TSA no-no's, and to stash in my truck, boat, tackle box, blind bag, etc, etc.

For everyday carry my go to lighter for the last 3 years or so has been a Vector double torch. Picked it up for $15 new at one of the local B&Ms. Very solid lighter that I have had zero problems with.

I have bought a handful of torch lighters that just never seem to work very well. Either they run thru fuel too fast, or they just wont light. In windy conditions though, the torch is the only way. I usually smoke in my garage, and just use a regular bic.
