Who here uses and collects fountain pens? I just ordered a Noodler's Ahab fountain pen, a bottle of Noodler's Bad Black Moccasin ink, and a fine non-flex nib. This was after watching a bunch of YouTube videos by Goulet Pens.

The start of one more slippery slope...I can feel it already. LOL

I've got several.. My favorite is my Visconti...

Best "affordable" fountain pens IMO are lamy's.. Write excellent.. Easy to convert from cartridge.. Etc...

There are usually some good deals to be had on fleabay... I picked up a mid 1970's Parker for $9 last year there.. Writes like a champ!

I have my eyes on the blue Lamy Al-Star for use with blue ink.

pick one of those up... and you'll never want to write with anything else... ever again....

truely AWESOME...

they can be had a good bit cheaper than that list price BTW.. thats just the first link I found... I picked mine up while my wife and I were in Florence (where they are made).. more as a momento of the trip than anything else.. but since buying it.. I no longer use any of my "expensive" pens... I prefer it over my higher end pens (mostly mont blancs)

Should have mentioned rotring in my initial post too though.. their lower cost options are AWESOME for every day use pens.. the Rotring 600 fountain is the absolute BOMB!

I use a fountain pen almost exclusively at work. I have several really nice ones that were gifted to me over the years, but Lamy's are my workhorses. My favorite is an S.T. DuPont that my Dad gave me this past year.

Before I retired I loved the hobby of collecting pens but when you are left handed like I am you always smear the ink and I can do that with a 99 cent pen. What they need is a quick drying ink so that when I drag my hand over the page I don't have ink on the palm of my hand.....is there such a thing?

Private Reserve makes some fast drying ink. Never tried it, but if you are interested, Goulet Pen online carries it.

Thanks for that info guys....who says BOTL only knows about cigars? I feel comfortable enough with members to ask about HVAC or science experiments with all of the expertise members bring.
