  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Freakin UPS!!!!!!

I got home today and had a package slip waiting for me in my door. I went to the apt office to go and pick it up, but there was a sign on the door that said the office was closed for the day due to some conference....damn apt complex lazy asses! Anyway, I look on the UPS slip and the box is marked patio. Surely, UPS did not throw my box 2 stories high onto my patio....? Oh yes they freakin did! Those dumb F-ers! Ive filed a complaint with UPS because they are supposed to bring packages back by the next day when when somebody is back at the office not throw it on my second story patio 15 feet above the ground. Anyway, it wouldnt have been a big deal except 4 of the 11 cigars that I ordered were all cracked and unsmokable now. I wrote the vendor, and before I go bashing them or canceling my credit card order from them I figure Ill give them a chance to replace the cigars since they are the idiots who only allow me to ship UPS in the first place. opefully I wont have to bash them, but I really have no problem with it if provoked. I really hope this day gets better!!!!:angerhead

I fail to see how this is the vendors fault but it is their responsibility. The vendor certainly did not request for UPS to throw the package onto your patio. I would alert the vendor of the issue and let them deal with UPS.

Im just ticked because I hate UPS. They take forever with everything. They are more expensive, and they do shit like this. I mean thats been my experience. When a vendor doesnt let you choose the shipping type, that annoys me. Just venting, because one of the cigars that got ruined was a gift, and I was hoping to be able to give it to that person today or tomorrow. Anyway.....blah!

DUDE(s),
I used to unload trucks at the UPS annex in Aliso Viejo, CA. Here's how it goes.

You throw up[ the back door of a huge semi trailer that has been parked in your loading dock. you pull a long conveyor or roller table up to the packages and start sending them down the line. Sounds normal right? NOPE. Considering average man is far shorter, ever with arms outstretched, than a trtailer is high, we would just pull from the middle until the boxes on top came tumbling down. then we would just pick them up from there. If you are shipping UPS buy the insurance because there is not such thing as gentle handleing practices at UPS.

Bummer about your smokes.

I fail to see how this is the vendors fault but it is their responsibility.
correct since the trucking company is contracted to act as a agent of the company who gave the product
truckers and trucking companies always get blamed since the shipper won't admit to the receiver that its was there fault if they improperly prepared the product for shipment and the receiver won't accept any less that a perfect product

In this case I don't think any thing will happen by UPS other than a ass chewing buy a UPS since all they driver are teamsters and the shop steward will back the driver right or wrong
Now I think it comes down who through the box on your patio apartment house personal or the OOPs driver
this really sucks if the shipment was time critical
I would get a hold of your vender and let have a chat with OOPs
your shipment is not worth much to OOPs but the business who ship your package probley does a lot of busness with OPPs and OOPs will is more likely to listen to them since the vender could take His business elsewhere
My advice is let your vender fight this battle for after all they want to keep you as a customer

Don't worry bro! Tell the vendor and they should ship you a replacement right away. All the vendor has to do is file a claim with UPS and they get up to $150 back automatically. Now if the package is valued more than that and the Vendor did not puchase the extra insurance then it's really gonna be there loss. Now if the Vendor doesn't send you replacements then you have a problem and you need to bring up what I've just explained because each and every package that is shipped via UPS is covered up to $150. Hope this helps:smile:

WalterLars - Sounds like you work for UPS/FedEx or one of those companies...

This driver was an idiot, no matter what was in the package, he should never had tossed the package on a second floor patio. It wasn't the fault of vendor, but they are responsible for the way UPS handled the package.

I hear ya, one of the vendors I use will only ship UPS also, takes at least 7 days to get the package, if he decides to leave it if not, I have to take off work early to go pick them up at UPS, other vendors in the same area use USPS priority, and I have them in 2 days.

UPS does suck, I don't know why some vendors do not give the buyer choice of the shipping method that works best for them.

Sounds like poor packing as well. Both at fault. Let the vendor make it right and decide if they want to continue using UPS.

Nah just a truck driver who has been caught in one of those shipper VS the recever meat grinder with nether one taking the blame and blaming it on the shipping company :hammersma and driver

last claim I had cost My Boss and Me 192.00 because the shipper didn't shrink wrap the product tight enough and all the boxes slide off the pallet
I have driven milk tankers , flat bed trucks gas tankers and Haz Mat and buses both charter and airport tourist shuttle buses at "Uncle Walts rat farm " AKA disney land I am now driveing freight up and down HWY 101 in Calif
I may be crazy but I am not stupid enough to drive a school bus I don't have a degree in wild life mangerment

I've got to say when a driver is picking up a load it is absolutely there responsibility to inspect it before it is loaded on there truck. If something is not properly shrink wrapped it is the drivers responsibility to to tell the company that there load is simply unacceptable. Once the load is put on the truck it is the driver/shipping companies responsibility hence the reason almost all companies ship FOB. Now the only difference is if that company actually owns the freight company then it is the shipping/trucking companies responsibility. I've been in shipping for years with my company and I've had trucking companies drop my product off at the wrong place and employees actually steal the product. Guess what? trucking companies problem and that goes for any damaged product whether I didn't have it properly loaded or not. Why? Because as soon as that driver signs the BOL it is the trucking companies problem not the shipper. Same thing goes for UPS once they p/u it is there responsibility that is why they automatically insure every package for $150 unless the shipper proves otherwise. UPS plays the odds that there $150 will cover and that the odds will play out in there favor.
Just trying to clarify this for Benzoyprene.

once the driver signs the BoL its His and his companies problem
its just that I have been the guy in the middle of a few pi**ing contests between shipper and custmer and snice tjhe shipper and custmer are talking and nether will take the blame
guess who gets blamed ?
I guess I am just venting
you think that a company listed on NYSE would be able to afford the cost
rather than put it off on a small trucking company with just 2 trucks
but snice nobdy else took the blame it comes out of our pockets
this shipper make you signs the BoL before you even see the load
if I was loading it My self I might see it that way but its they guys packing and loading it
guess I am just in a pissy mood over freight claims this week snice My pay check is $200 less

I kinda agree with you about big business sticking to the little guy. If you are the driver or you have a driver working for you it is very important to check the load for stability, especially if the truck is not full yet. A fully weighted truck is a happy truck! I actually learned how to properly prepare a shipment by taking notes from a truck driver. Shrink wrapping should be at least a minimum of 2 layers I actually put 3 and I make sure the pallet is shrink wrapped to the load. Believe me I don't want to have to make a claim, period. I'm a small company also and I have companies that try to make claims with me and say that the freight was damaged and I just say "not my problem!" F.O.B. your driver signed for and intact load and since I take special care of my product I have absolutely no problem passing the cost on to the trucking company. Obviously there was some careless cross docking of my pallets when preparing my shipment to go to wherever it's destination was. I do feel your pain though, it's a pain in the ass when dealing with big companies especially when you really like the account and it's potential. Just really make sure those loads are secure and even though it may take longer hold the company to certain standards before any driver signs the BOL.

The smoke shop is going to send me replacements, but they dont have one of the cigars I ordered anymore:sadstare: , so they are shipping me something else of comperable value. I filed a complaint with UPS, and they called me the next day and appologized and told me thy would be reviewing proper handling techniques with him. I told the thanks, because all I wanted was an appology from them, and for the driver to know that I didnt appreciate his carelessness. Hopefully I wont have this happen again. Didnt mean to get some of you guys all worked up. Cheers!
