French press coffee

Grind as coarse as you can. Use a 16:1 ratio of water to ground coffee. If that's a common sized press, you'll be brewing about 900 grams, so use about 56 grams of coffee. The recommendation below to start with two tablespoons is incorrect. Pour 200° water. Break your bloom after a minute or so. Gently depress plunger after 3:30-4:00. Do not oversteep. It will get bitter. Pour into a decanter. Drink.

I try to grind coarse enough that only a tiny bit of grind gets past the screen, then go up one step...........
or just don't sweat it, a little grit in the cup will not hurt you. More than 5 Min.steep is ok too, but try and find your sweet spot.
Start with 2 TABLE spoons of beans,and work up from there, you may find you like it "espresso like", or not.
a piece of lemon or lime zest goes well, cardamom or cinnamon, this time of year try some eggnog instead of cream.......
and remember ,a shot of Armagnac or Rum can really turn out nicely.
