  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

So I've decided I want to hop on the rum train, never been a big fan of rum until a friendly neighbor of a friend gave us some sipping rum on st. pats, now I can't put off the urge get my hands on a good bottle fast enough. Unfortunately I can't remember the name Rum my friends neighbor gave us (this happened shortly before we got into a bottle of glenlivet 12 year old with him), so I decided to come here to check out some of the other threads on rum.

To my surprise a majority of the brands listed here (Zaya, Ron Zacapa, Pyrat, Ron Matusalem to name a few) don't seem to be available through the Liquor Control Board of Ontario (only place buy liquor in Ontario besides the airport duty free).

I've considered hoping over the boarder to pick up a few bottles of rum but if there is a more localized way of getting my hands on some I'd prefer to do that.

Any suggestions?

I ended up buying a bottle of Havana Club 7 year old today, unfortunately it wasn't quite what I was looking for. Something a both a little smoother and sweeter that masks the taste of the alcohol, seems like Zaya might be my best bet

Buy Ron Zacapa 23 and you'll be one happy SOB.

It hasn't truly been aged 23 years......as they use a "solera" process for the purposes of aging (so the OLDEST casked rum in each bottle is 23 years....where the youngest might only be 7 or 10 etc.).

Either way.......it's excellent!!

I prefer the Anejo of Havana Club...not the 7. The best rum on the market (tastes exactly like the old Cuban of teh same name 15 year which is no longer made) is Matusalem Gran Reserva. It is avail in the US not sure bout Canada.
