  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

I just finished my first 8-5-8 Sungrown. Man! What a fabulous smoke!!!

Granted it was from 2007, i assume, so it had a little bit of age, but this thing was smooth as silk, extremely well balanced and loaded with great flavors. i would call it med to med/full that grew just a little more towards the med/full bodied range towards the end.

But here's my question...

Do all the sungrowns taste like this 858 did? Ive only had a couple AF sungrowns, both of which were much younger than this 2007 858. The King B was pretty powerful and the other was the cuban belicoso i believe. Like i said, i remembver both being pretty strong and full bodied. Was this 858 just mellowed after a year and a half or so of rest?

What can i expect from the several king bs and cuban belis ive had resting for about 6 months now. Will they end up tasting like the 858?

Thanks in advance

No, they won't taste like the 858SG in my opinion, but I also wouldn't consider the 2007 release to be aged. IMHO, Fuente makes the best sun growns on the planet, bar none. They all have a sharpness to them when young, but I like that about them, Cuban Belis right off the truck are fantastic smokes IMHO. But of course, with 5-8 years on them, they get downright phenomenal.

I smoked a the Cuban Beli this afternoon, and an 858 last night. The 858 was much smoother and milder in my opinion (they were both close to say age).

Cuban Beli is an awesome sun grown stick. Ocat sent me a few in a yummmies trade, burning and tasting phenomenally.

I agree wade, 2007 is not aged, but it had more "age" than the other couple AF sungrowns i've had. And a shaprness is a good way to describe that young flavor. That's kinda what i didn't like about them. I've never been a HUGE fuente fan, not that i don't like them, but that young flavor we're talkign about is what has turned me off. I think i may certainly buy a few more or even a box to let them age properly for a few years. That 858 was THAT good, adn if i can get anything even remotley close to the smoothness that had, then i'm in and i'll do what i have to (aging them) to get it. It made a believer out of me on the regular production AF lines, even thought the 858 SG isn't regular produciton.

I've been working like hell on several fronts trying to pick up that rosado, but it's proving to be very elusive...i'm starting to think it's a snipe. Wanted to give you the ultimate 5 pack, but no dice yet, and certainly dont' hold your breath.

If you can find them, check out the Montensino (Fuente Product) Sungrown Pyramid. They are no longer made but you can find them if you look. I think they are better then the 858 SGs. Just my HO.

I once got to try the Montesino SG pyramid and have to agree, better than the 8-5-8 SG, which is a gorgeus smoke too, in me opinion.

Nope, 858 are a special blend I believe, great smokes, I really like the mads and nat also.

Maybe some, I have some from 07 and they dont seem to have changed 2 much from when I got them.

No, IMHO they will not.

Fuente SG are great, my go to large stick has been fuente sun grown double chateua for years, less than 5 bucks a stick and a great smoke. IMHO the 858, Cuban Beli, King B, And Double Cheteau all taste a bit different even thoughthey are all in the sungrown line. I am pretty sure the 858 is actually a diffreent blend, not sure about the others, but I think the King B has a different wrapper than the other SGs.

OK, I found the Montensino SG Beli and Super Beli. There was also a box of Pyramids there, but it did not say SG on the box. Is there a natural pyramid? All three boxes looked pretty old. Grabbed a couple of the Belis for a taste test that Bball was interested in.

LMK about the pyramid. I would love to hear that they only made the pyramid in the SG. I would buy the box tomorrow and spread it around.

They only ever made the pyramid in the SG. I actually just smoked one because of all the chatter. One of the most flavorful smokes out there. They are no longer made so if you can find them I would buy them cause there ain't no more! Famous has 3 boxes left at $94 a box. Good deal if you ask me.

My understanding is that the Montesino Pyramid has the Opus binder and the VSG sungrown wrapper. Terrific stick. I did a side by side with a VSG Estate reserve from a number of years back & while the Montesino didn't beat the ER, it was much closer than I would have expected.

Also, I have a TON of boxes of Fuente Sungrown cigars (no 858s, sorry). If anyone has interest just PM me. I don't really smoke them any more. I may have 20 boxes of different kinds. I'd gladly deal on em as they're just taking up space.

Correct on the Montesino SG Pyramid. Should be in an odd shaped box. Awesome cigar.
