Gas or Charcoal?

Just out of curiosity, how many of you use gas grills, charcoal grills/pits, and/or both?

I use charcoal for both grilling and smoking. I have a 55 gallon drum smoker with the firebox on the side.

Ive got one of those big 4 station grills... smoke box on one end, with a charcoal grill next to that.. gas grill next to that, and a propane sear station next to that...

Best of all worlds...

If I want to go the wood/coal route for something "nice".. or take all day and smoke something.. no problem.... Ive got the grill to do that...

but.. if its just burgers and hotdogs, etc.. I can turn the knob and have a 400 degree grill going in less than 2 minutes on the propane side...

I always use charcoal because I just love the flavor and challenges of using it. Gas is nice though when I don't have time to mess around. It pretty rare that I use it though.

I use gas a lot more in the Winter because charcoal is just too inconvenient. But, in the Summer, there is no beating the aroma of charcoal and wood

I love charcoal myself and use it 98% of the time but if its just a couple burgers/hotdogs I use propane my grill has charcoal on 1 side and propane on the other

I have a gas grill and soon I'll have The Green Egg for a smoker, my neighbor loves to use the mesquite briquettes instead of charcoal.

charcoal here in the grill and smoker. I haven't touched my gas grills in years.

Home made charcoal or charcoal bricks from a local retailer. Actually, Walmart (of all places) has good charcoal bricks.

Wood works great too, especially shaved, damp wood for smoking ...

Both, when time is tight, gas. All other times, charcoal.

Smoke Hollow 4 in 1 combo grill... They normally are about $399 at my local Sams Club.. looks like they are $349 if you buy it online... I picked mine up 2 years ago at the end of the summer on clearance for $299...

Charcoal, all day. If time is tight, I cook something else.

I used gas for grilling for a couple of years but went back to charcoal, just because I like the flavor so much better.

Gas is certainly quick and convenient but I prefer to take my time and get something that I really enjoy eating.

I have an offset I use to strictly smoke, a weber charcoal I use when I have the time and a gas grill I use on a daily basis come the warm weather. I will forever have a gas grill, I agree the flavor of a charcoal fire is nice but the easiness of a gas grill cannot be beat. I can fire that thing up at 2 am and bang down a couple of burgers and dogs and be done in no time.

That's really the one downfall with charcoal isn't it - the time required before it's ready to use

Truthfully yes, but 10-15 minutes extra I would much rather the added flavor.
