Giving Up on Cutters

I have only done it in an emergency. I normally have a cutter with me or at least a pocket knife.

To me it is a process, without the cut I feel as though I am missing something. That being said, i had a lancero rolled by Maria at the El Titan De Bronze shop in Miami a couple months ago that had a fantail on it, She rolled all ten thousand La Palina Goldie's herself, the fantail is designed to be pulled/bitten off instead of cut. I did so as Sandy(the owner of ETdB suggested I do.) The draw was perfect and it was an amazing "fresh" cigar. I think with some age it would've been one of my favorites, sadly it's the only one i had. It was ETdB's new redemption maduro lancero.

Freshly rolled cigars are a must whenever you find them...almost every single one I've ever had ( at least 100 ) only 3 or 4 have been marginal. Freshly rolled cigars are so good everybody needs to try at least a dozen...they are comparable to most high end cigars and super premiums.

I'm to much of a neat freak...cannot even think about biting off the cap without sending chills down my spine. Must use a cutter or it would bug the shit out of me.

I bite the tip off my cigars and thankfully have no problem with draw, wrapper, or saliva. It did take a few smokes to get used to though so I can see why some people think that's the worst thing to do to a cigar.

I read a good article, which I of course can't find now, in C.A. about Cuban farm managers and rollers, etc pretty much all using the bite technique to great effect.

I think I've tried it once before I even knew the proper way to cut a cigar much less nibble one to pre-smoke readiness and I did a fine job mangling it. If I didn't have a cutter, punch, or sharp knife I think I would certainly bite the cap off a cigar before I attacked one with pruning shears.

Never was able to get the bite down,always felt it left my cigar wet.
