Great list, BUT I have to comment on City of God. It is probably the single best film that hardly anyone in America has seen. It is incredible and a must see for everyone. If you folks have netflix you can get it there. If not try local B&M video shops. I promise you it is worth whatever means you have to go through to see it.

Outside of the "norm" Cosa Nostra gangster flicks from the above list I also highly recommend Eastern Promises. A very gritty russian mob movie that did a bit of research on russian tattoos and their relevance to russian mobsters before filming. More information on that subject can be found in [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Russian-Criminal-Tattoo-Encyclopaedia-I/dp/0955862078/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1281376000&sr=8-2-fkmr0"]Amazon.com: Russian Criminal Tattoo Encyclopaedia Volume I (9780955862076): Damon Murray, Stephen Sorrell, Sergei…@@AMEPARAM@@http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51x0oGnHnbL.@@AMEPARAM@@51x0oGnHnbL[/ame] which is top notch.

Just adding to what's already here:

Breathless (1960)
Gomorrah (2008)
Le Samourai (1967)
Shoot the Piano Player (1960)

And not necessarily a gangster flick in the strictest sense, but deals with organized theft, kidnapping, and extortion. A fifteen-hour silent film, it's also one of my favorite movies:

Les Vampyres (1915)
