I restored all my dad's old pipes to smokeable condition and it was easy. I didn't care about them looking new and pristine, and in fact part of their appeal for me is their age and that they were well-loved by my dad. So I took a minimum intervention approach, fully cleaning the stems and just doing salt-alcohol and cotton-alcohol soaks in the bowls. Didn't even ream them. All smoke like a dream.

WOW, they did a phenomenal job cleaning them up for you. I've never used their services for that yet but it's good to know for future reference though.
