BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE
Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

I agree, daytime movie going is for the jerry's. Interested in opinions on this one too. I will definately see it. Maybe Sun.:robosmile
OK... first off, DO NOT wait for this film to come out on DVD unless you have a good home theater (complete with HUGE screen) or you'll ruin the suspension of disbelief that it's an old exploitation film. If you can see it in a drive-in, even better. I'm planning on catching it at the local drive-in if it plays there, because it's worth seeing again to be able to do it as a drive-in experience. I even got "lucky" (purely subjective, as my butt did hurt after the first hour or so) in the sense that we got to see it in the more "run down" wing of my local theater.
Simply put, Grindhouse lives up to its own hype. It is everything one expects from a tribute to classic exploitation films, complete with 4 fake trailers. One trailer before Terror Planet (Rodriguez's short, and the better of the two in my opinion) and three in between that and Death Proof. There's also burning film, missing reels, etc.
A number of people walked out on Death Proof because the first 20 or so minutes of it were cliché Tarantino, as in too much boring dialog that doesn't do much to set up the film at all. Really, if I hadn't stayed to see the rest of DP, I wouldn't be able to blame them.
There's so much I want to say about the movie, but I hate when people say too much and spoil a film for me, and I don't want to be a hypocrite... so just go and see it.

Hmm...well the lady with a gun for a leg just seems ridiculous.
Which is exactly why it succeeded in being just what it's supposed to be, no more and no less. It's supposed to seem ridiculous. Go back and watch any of the old real "grindhouse" films from the 60s and 70s and they'll seem just every bit as ridiculous in their own ways. Some more so even.

Got a review from my son who went to see it opening day. He said the Rodriguez segment was better than Quentin's, which surprised me. He also said it was a bit too long at three and a half hours (approximately). I was going to go this evening but I got the first cluster headache I've had in almost 5 years today, and it flat laid me out. Anybody who suffers from these can tell you it is extremely painful.

Okay I found a very decent Cam on Demonoid. Here's my take... Up until this movie, I loved every Tarantino film I had seen. And I mean all of em. Now this one, I don't know if I was in the wrong mood or what, but I just thought it stunk. I get that it was supposed to be cheesy and all, but it all just did nothing for me. Also, comparing this to 300, no matter what you think of either film, is apples and garbage bags. Anyway, as with most of Tarantino's films, I was expecting to be blown away. Well, I was blown away alright, blown away at how bad it sucked. I know a bunch think this is an awesome film and I'm not cutting on you. I just flat did not get it. :robosmile
