  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

While I didn't care for most that I've sampled, I've had a couple that I enjoyed very much. I guess on those few occasions I was that "type" of person. No offense dude but this just sounds very elitist.

Special auction at Cigar Bids. Looks like a good deal.

Bottom line bro', if it's good for you then by all means smoke it. Don't get trapped by what anyone says you're "supposed" to like.

Just one more thing, you really should have posted this in [ame="http://www.botl.org/community/forums/showthread.php?t=11257"]The Official Cigar Deals Thread[/ame]

Elitist?? I don't think so, I am just sick and tired of people falling into the Gurkha trap. I know I did and knowing what I know now I wish someone gave me a little advice against them.... I think someone should know a little bit about what they are buying before the get it and maybe I should have explained a little more in depth... If you are the type of person that enjoys cigars that have a ridiculous, and I mean absolutely ridiculous, MSRP that are poorly made and for the most part taste like garbage, then by all means, this is a great deal/ Elitist? Nah

Whatever happened to "smoke what you like and like what you smoke"? If you've had one bad experience with a Gurkha then that's too bad. But you shouldn't bad mouth Gurkha because of your experience.

I personally have smoked hundreds of Gurkhas, most of them I like especially the perfectos like the ones in the original post. And yes, they never sell for MSRP so the bargain can be had. JMHO.

Well, to each their own I guess. I just don't like how people feel like they are getting a "deal". Believe me, I bought my fair share of Gurkhas because I didn't know much about cigars and they were a really good deal. Looking back on the amount of cash I wasted I wish someone pointed me towards Tats and the like a bit earlier/

Edit: Oh and one bad experience doesn't quite cover my relationship with Gurkha.

I have had some good Gurkha and some bad. I do tend to shy away (without sticking my nose to high in the air - Lol!). That is partly because of the price issue - intentionally priced way too high just so they can mark them down drastically (but this is very common in every industry). The other reason is, like RP, there seems to be a new blend every other week, but unlike PJ, they vary so widely in quality & taste, I've long ago chosen not to follow them.

It does boil down to personal taste~Smoke what you like!!!
Some things, I just can't wait to try for myself, other things - let's just say I'll let someone else be the guinea pig before I even consider it!

I agree that the MSRP on the internet-exclusive Gurkhas are a sham...something that CI just makes up in order to make it seem like a great deal.

But the regular-release Gurkhas that are also sold in shops sell for high prices all the time...my local B&M sells the tubed Gurkhas for I think $16 each, and it's one of their top-selling lines!

That being said, as with any cigar, value is determined on an ad-hoc basis. If it's worth it to you, it's worth it. I like a number of Gurkhas--for the price I'm willing to pay for them on cbid, that is.

I think if you would do a search here on Gurkhas you would find that a lot of people have said "they've had good ones and bad" as Soundwave had stated. This to me tells me they aren't very consistant and if I'm paying for a stick I'd like better than a 50/50 chance of it being good. I've tried a few Gurkhas myself and they've all been crap in my opinion. Again, "in my opinion"!

Frankly Gurka's are not my cup of tea. I only put the link up there - so that if anybody likes them it's a good price (aprox 4$ ea.)

I agree that the sales / marketing tactics of this company tend to lean toward that segment of smokers that equate price with quality. In reality, these "special auctions" are bringing prices back down to what they are worth, IMHO.

Overall, I've found Gurkhas to be decent smokes. I enjoyed the double perfectos, but generally they were a change of pace for me. I've had some bad examples, but the same is true for Fuente, Padron, Tat, etc. Cigars are a hand made, naturally grown product and this does not lend itself to 100% consistency.

So I say ... try everything at least once, determine your own value level and relax with a good cigar and a snifter of rum. With the government getting more involved in tobacco, who knows what changes are in store for the future.

I like this cigar. Bought about 40 at an average price of $3.50 on C Bid. I wouldnt pay what CI sell them for but this one is good although it dies in the last quarter.
