Hey Gentlemen....
I've been on somewhat of a GURKHA cigar buying and tasting rampage.... :smokingco
The first few Gurkha's I had, a year or so ago, I really loved; So I took advantage of cigarbid's lower prices and over the course of about 3 months I scored some sweet deals... still spent a few thousand dollars, ouch!!! But I needed to stock up on sticks before life changes that are coming happen and I have to stop buying cigars.
Anyways, I'm sitting on a great stock of many of the different Gurkha blends, I wanted to be able to try as many as I could and stock up on some of the favorites.
I've been keeping track of what I've had and thought you guys may want in on my personal thoughts and rankings; This is a cigar site isn't it? :dunno:
Of the ranked ones below I've had a least a few sticks of that blend; My personal theory is try at least 2 or 3 of a stick before making a decision on it. I've had many first trys be great and the rest terrible, or visa-verse.
Some of the top ranked ones (the top 6 or so) have become a rotation of my daily smokes, I enjoy them that much.
In order from the best(# 1) to least favorite, My Gurkha List:
1) Gurkha Genghis Khan
2) K. Hansotia Symphony
3) Gurkha Symphony
4) Gurkha Legend
5) Gurkha Gold Collector's Edition
6) Gurkha Class Regent Nepalese Warrior
7) Gurkha Class Regent
8) Gurkha Doble Maduro
9) Gurkha Signature '101' Maduro
10) Gurkha Master's Select
11) Gurkha Expedition 1887 Series
These sticks are in the humi, preparing to be smoked:
Gurkha Triple Ligero X3
Gurkha Grand Master
Gurkha Royal Brigade
Gurkha Beast
Gurkha Grand Age
Gurkha X-Fuerte
Once I've had a chance to gage these I will incorporate them into the ranking above.
Rankings with basic notes/info/tasting notes:
1) Gurkha Genghis Khan - :1st: - A amazing smoke, Its my favorite smoke of any company, next to RP signature. The Khan is sweet, literally, but not nasty flavored sweet, just sweeter then normal tobacco, VERY rich, full flavor. The flavors change many times throughout the cigar, its really a trip. Man, its yummy...I've stocked up on boxes of these.
I find the 6x50 size to be more enjoyable then the large churchill, Better burn and easier to smoke.
2) K. Hansotia Symphony - There is actually 2 versions/ages of this "symphony", the (1)K. Hansotia and the (2)Gurkha K. Hansotia. I guess the story is K. Hansotia is the owner of Gurkha, before it was Gurkha he had this K. Hansotia Symphony as his favorite stick, but people couldn't remember or pronounce the name, so he developed the "Gurkha" name.
The difference between the 2 Symphony's is simply age. The K. Hansotia Symphony are rolled then have been sitting around with the old single band silver label ageing for 2-6 years, and the Gurkha Symphony are rolled and shipped out normally, with 2 bands, the silver band and the Gurkha band. The Gurkha Symphony is just the new label. The two smoke the same and taste about the same, but the aged K. Hansotia Symphony is slightly better; a very, very small difference. I'll take either any day!
Any size, churchill, torpedo, robusto.....all good! This stick is in my top 5 favorites of all. I've stocked up on these as well.
3) Gurkha Symphony - See above...
4) Gurkha Legend - Another slightly rich taste. Full flavored. Perfecto size is good, but a few burn issues, I have some toro size on the way I'm excited to try.
5) Gurkha Gold Collector's Edition - Med to full, solid stick that's the same flavor from start to finish.
6) Gurkha Class Regent Nepalese Warrior - A different version of the regular Regent, IMO, slightly better.
7) Gurkha Class Regent - A classic, solid stick. Highly rated by CA.
8) Gurkha Doble Maduro - A great maduro. Strong, but not as strong as other "double" maduros. Soft to the touch, maybe wrapped a little looser?
9) Gurkha Signature '101' Maduro - The few I've had just didn't thrill me like other Gurkhas, but better then a lot of other cigars. My buddies personal favorite. I've had some problems with the draw of them.
10) Gurkha Master's Select - Popular, but overrated. Not worth more the $1.50 a stick IMO. I'd hand these out to newbies to smoke, that wont notice the difference. Seems very ashy and stale tasting to me. I'll smoke one if i need to, but go for the Carlos Torano Exodus Silver - a much better smoke, that is similar to the Master select..
11) Gurkha Expedition 1887 Series - Terrible. Steer clear of these, IMO.
Hope this info was helpful or was worth the read....
I'm hoping you guys will respond with you thoughts, and even your own lists if you had these or other Gurkhas....
As I said, I'll update my list as I smoke more and try new Gurkhas. :stretchgr
