  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Gurkha cigars, anyone else had one?

I was at the local smoke shop, just looking around for a good new smoke, something I have never tried. Out of the corner of my eye I see this ornate box full of some odd looking sticks. The cigars where torpedo shaped with about a 1/2 inch of non rapped filler sticking out the end, and a huge fancy band. So I got one, and a Rocky Patel Edge.

I have not been smoking long, so I really don't pick up on many small tastes, but this cigar was smooth, and very enjoyable all the way to the nub, I just could'nt stop! The cigar burnned very well, no touch-ups or relights, and provided just enough smoke.

Has anyone here ever tried one? I have not smoked many different brands, but I think This is one of the best I have ever smoked. Oh, and by the way, I really didnt like the rocky patel, I found it harsh, and rolled too tight, but maybe I got a bad one.

Here is a link to the cigars I'm talking about. If you havent had one, I suggest you pick one up on your next trip.

My B&M has them, but I haven't tried them. I'm sure they're like all Gurkhas, not what they say they are. I've heard they're a disappointing smoke.

One of the locals I go to had a Gurkha night a coupla months back. I smoked one there and bought two more and a couple of Black Dragons, a G5 and a G3. Not a bum in the bunch, IMO.

That Shaggy was really, really good, though getting back to your original question.

Shaggy's are really nice. I was fortunate to smoke a couple of the first batch and they were heads and shoulders better than the current lot though.

I like the G3's...is the G5 new?...any reviews out there?..thanks...len
The G5 is called the Avenger. They were issued last year as far as I know. They are a Nicaraguan puro so they should be full bodied and spicy. I haven't smoked mine as of yet. I want to put a couple more months on it.

Well, Gurkha makes so many different blends that, just by the law of averages, some of them have to be at least decent!

One of my cigar buddies put together a Gurkha sampler for me about a year ago, and I found that the Nepalese Warrior, Grand Envoy, Legend, Regent and Masters Select were all excellent smokes. Everyone's taste is different and, as with any cigar, you can't really know if you will like it until you've tried it.

I really like most of the Gurkahs I've had. I boiught a big sampler from Tedski a while back and was hooked. I had had a couple before that and wanted to try more of them. They can be had on C-bid in 5rs all day long. They do a good job with thier perfecto vitolas, always a good burn.

They are quality smokes, almost always made in small lots, so they have lots of frontmarks. All well rolled, always well packaged, always with quality ingredients. Then there is the question of, do you like them? That's up to you to say, but with all the different Ghurkas out there, there would have to be some you love, and some you don't.

Don't take anyone's opinion, try them yourself. If you like it, it is good. You are the final say. Some people hate Ghurkas. Many of them have never tried them, but they know they hate them. Then there's reviews. Everybody's taste is different. So try them, you might just be one of those who believe them to be the best cigars there are.

One thing about Ghurkas though - they can be really expensive, especially by the box. Great boxes though!!

Don't mind the Legends, and if you can get the X-Fuerte bigassed torpedoes on Cbid for cheap then I like those too! The Masters Select are also good. I think the G3s have piece of shit wrappers on them, tho. Way too thin and always are falling apart. And those gigantic Gurkhas that came in the chest, I think they were called the Warlords, I didn't like them either. Very loose draw and not a whole lot of flavor (at least IMO).

I'm a big fan of the Legend and the Ancient Warrior. I haven't had enough of the others to tell yet, though. I like that you can always find a good deal on Gurkhas somewhere or other.
