As far as the cheap-but-good stuff goes, there is Gurkha, Rocky Patel, CAO as you know (each have good and bad, depending on who you are since were all different). There is also Oliva, Perdomo, and Torano. The Perdomo ESV '91 in particular is excellent.

For others, I very strongly suggest Padilla. You can get the 1932, Dominus, and Miami for $4/stick or less @ cigarsinternational, cigar.com or cigarbid. All awesome sticks!

I also heartily suggest 601s as well, including Cubao. But all are pretty full-bodied. They are made by Don Pepin Garcia, whose Black label (aka "Cuban Classic") and Blue Label are both fantastic as well and can all be found for $4/stick or so on sale.

The Gurkha Symphony is a good AM smoke. Castle Hall is good for the price. Cuban Legacy is good with some age. The Empire Series ain't bad and the Blue Steel is nice.

Never met a Gurkha that did much for me, and more than a few that I actively dislike... but you know what? These days, I like diversity, and the more stuff that's out there, the greater the chance that someone new will pick something up, love it, and become a great new BOTL. So even though I don't like the gurks, to each their own.

PS. If you have any, send them to Dustin. Biggest Gurkha slut ever.

Legend, Masters Select are both Gurkhas I have enjoyed inthe past. Too many now that I really don't try them much any more. I share your thoughts on Diesel and like the UHC and love the Shorty. San Lotano Habano is a new one I am enjoying in the won't kill your wallet category. Origen is also a nice smoke.
