  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Help with yet another cohiba

So I recently became friends with this guy as we share common interests and yes one being cigars. So we were sharing smokes chit chatting, he got telling me how he has family in the Europe. Long story short he gave me a cohiba. Which I believe to be a Cohiba Sunglo V. But I have a good feeling this is fake but then again I have zero knowledge on CC's. please help
Wait a minute...that may be an authentic "Sunglo" V (grin).

I know, I know...damn auto correct.

Yeah, I wanted to say the same regarding the "Sunglo" lol... Sorry to have to agree with everyone else. That thing hurts.

And in most cases, there is a lot of debate on whether or not you should say anything, based on the "friendship" you have with the other individual. But I do have to agree, I would mention it to him as well, primarily for the health risk factor.

When you do go to make your case, make sure and show him the filler picture, and educate him on the "long filler". Then make sure and show him the website provided here as well. That website is incredibly informative with regards to legitimate cigars.

Good luck man.

Thanks guys! I appreciate all the help! As far as telling my friend, I told him and explained why it was a fake. In all it well and he was happy I told him.

In the end I'm glad it worked out well for everyone. Obviously it sucks that you both got fake cigars, but at least now you know and money won't go towards the scammers that are selling them. Your story is exactly how it should go when finding out you got a fake from a friend, IMO.

- friend gives you a "Cohiba"
- you question the authenticity, but do not have enough experience to know for sure
- ask more experienced CC smokers about the authenticity
- get feedback it's a fake
- You DO NOT SMOKE THE CIGAR and throw it away or cut it open to see what's inside
- With respect, tell and educate your friend on how you know the cigar is a fake
- Happy ending (no not that kind)

I love this thread! My buddy just got a fake Behike 56 from a member of the Nicaraguan cigar industry who buys them in Chicago. It was so bad that it wasn't even funny. I couldn't believe that someone with as many cigar friends as this guy has would be buying fakes and not know. He was so proud of the fact that he was getting them for $25 ea. We cut the cigar open and it was a mixed filler and there was some very nasty black mold inside. It was foul. My buddy was so thankful that I told him it was fake. Now we're just waiting for the right time to tell the guy who gave it to him because he's the kind of guy who is not going to believe us and will die before he admits that he got "taken".
