Well, in the last 3-4yrs there has been a big explosion of older Cdn whiskies as the producers have figured out there is a market for the older stuff. Stuff like...
- Wiser's 18yr @ $50: A hop, skip and a jump from Maker's Mark. One is a super soft bourbon and one is a soulful Cdn whisky.
- Danfield's 21yr @ $50: A soft blended whisky with significant rye influance.
- Crown Royal XR @ $180: The last of the Waterloo distillery stocks. VERY elegant and complex. Classy stuff.
- Forty-Creek Confederation Reserve @ $70: A limited edition release from Forty-Creek. The reviews have been good on this one. A one-off bottling.
My recommendation would be to read the reviews on
www.canadianwhisky.org and decide based on those. Forty-Creek is a well-regarded distillery and this expression has garnered quite the buzz. If you are definatly coming to Toronto and want one of these I'd be willing to pick up a Confederation Reserve for you if it looks like they'll disappear and deliver it to you when you come for a visit.
