  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Grrr, you inspired me to get out in the shop and give pipe making a try, so instead of powder horns today I decided to give it a whirl, This is Olive wood, it has a 7/8" tobacco chamber about 1 5/8" deep. Overall length while sitting back is 6", the bowl section of wood is 1 1/" wide and the round part is 2" across. I bent the stem and fit it. Maybe not anything special but then again, it is my first pipe... OK, beat me up and tell me all the things I need to improve on. I haven't a clue what I am doing here.... sorry about the poor quality of my pics, Bad camera.

Fuck yeah Griz! That is a very unique design and the stem flows well with the smoking portion. Too cool brother! Yes, let us know how it smokes. What did the wifey say??
Edit: sorry Griz, I got excited and called you Grr....lol:hammersma
No problem, I have been called a lot worse than that, she really liked, actually I think she was impressed, but then again she is easily impressed....

That is awesome Looking PIPE. Congrats. I keep telling my self I am going to give it a go. But like another poster had said I am not any good with WOOD. Heck I even tried to widdle a branch for a Pipe Tamper. Then I keep telling my self it is ok. I can't make pipes because I don't have the right tools..... Truth is a real pipe carving person could use a knife and some sand paper and make a multi hundred dollar pipe. With the lights out even lol.

So with that said WAY TO GO and looking awesome. For sure let us know how it smokes. Has to smoke as good as it looks. WONDERFUL...

Totally interested in how well the olive wood stands up to the heat. I love olive wood so to see a pipe made from it is wonderful!

I saw some moron on YouTube show how to make a pipe out of a leftover piece of spruce 2×4.

Really boils down to functionality. Does it smoke well. Can it be broken down and cleaned properly. Does it withstand the test of time.

After that it just boils down to aesthetics. We all have in our minds how our ideal pipe would look like (which we all have vastly different views or there wouldn't be so many pipe shapes)

Again good job. After you smoke it a few times. Tell use what you would do different.

I am only good with one kind of wood. That's what she said.

Seriously, i am always impressed with people who have this talent. It looks great. Keep up the good work.
