  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Griz, that looks awesome. Well done.

Im stepping up my game. Just ordered a metal lathe.

Dang it, now I gotta get the tool catalog out and explain this to the wife:). Not really. Thanks for the compliments....
Very nice looking pipe sir. But I have to admit...Im now interested in your powder horns as well. I took a horn off a bull caught in a brush fire years ago with the plan of making a powder horn out of it. It still sits on my work bench collecting dust.

As for tool catalogs, Grizzly catalog gets me in trouble everytime I look at it. Its worse than the Snap On catalog. If they had a truck to stop by once a week Id be doomed. Im a sucker for quality tools.

ME TOO, had to hide it from myself:)
I HATE Grizzly Tools.

Why? Because I can't help myself from buying from them. <grin>

I had their bench top variable speed drill press, dust collector system, bench vise, table saw…

I sold them when my ex and I got divorced as I was moving into a townhouse with no room for it all.

Seriously, I love their stuff and have been eyeing their mini lathe

Hey good looking first pipe man, olive wood does work pretty well for a pipe. Some of my first pipes I did were made from Olive wood

I am just wondering? I have seen things done a few different ways! One I have seen people run White Diamond after the shape of the pipe is where you want it, Then dye it? Then I have seen people take the shape and run the dye before the first buff? Is there a right way? Or i guess is there a way that works out better then the other?

Thank you
James

What is white diamond? I'm still learning and actually just messing around. I needed a short break from scrimshawed powder horns but back to them now. Got orders to fill. I was told NOT to stain olive wood that it is too oily and will stain very blotchy.

Buffing compound. Step before waxing. Problem is I have seen some people buff then dye buff again and wax. I am going with my gut and say, shape, dye, sand, dye again if needed, buff and then wax. Thanks for the help keep up the beautiful pipe turns.
