Picked up a Synology DS1815+ today and shoved in 2 WD Red 6TB drives. Holy shitballs! This thing rocks! Average transfer speed is 120MBPS so far, probably limited by my cables and wifi cards, but this thing runs dead silent and cold. Filled up my Seagate Central device so I'm dumping everything over to the Synology tonight. Never could get the Seagate as secure as I'd have liked. Services I didn't want kept restarting on boot no matter what I did in the configs. With the Synology I can lock it down tight as I don't need it to have internet access except for firmware updates.

Any drive redundancy? 6tb is a lot of data to lose when a drive fails

Re: fault tolerance...Synology Hybrid Raid has one-disk fault tolerance w/ 2 drives and 2-disk tolerance w/ 3 or 4 drives (I forget). The more disks you add from there the more it resembles a flexible implementation of RAID5.
