  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Here's a question for you home stereo or audiophile types.

My wife and I like watching tv/movies after the kids are in bed. But we prefer to do it with headphones to keep the noise to a minimum. But my stereo (Pioneer Elite, 2009 model) has only ONE headphone out jack.

What's the best way to get 2 headphone-outs for my stereo? Will some kind of splitter be enough (the headphone-out jack on the stereo is powered, obviously)? Or do I need a dual-output headphone amp or something?

Thanks!

Depending on what you are using headphone-wise a splitter could work. If you are using IEMs or something low powered like that you should be fine, if you are using something that would normally need to be amped, you are going to notice the power problems a lot more obviously.

I would also try to buy a splitter that volume controls, or more importantly, or something like this, obviously there are MUCH cheaper alternatives, as you likely are going to want different volume levels.

Oh wait, you said audiophile response...

I think I'll try a cheap splitter first, that way I'm not out much $ if it doesn't work well enough. My headphones are Audio Technica ATH-AD700, might get a 2nd pair of those since I like them and they are around $100, or I might get something else.

When headphones are plugged into the stereo, the volume control on the remote works for the headphones too, which is cool. We'd have to both listen at the same volume, of course.
