While cleaning the house last week I thought it'd be nice to listen to some tunes. So I thought about hooking up my iPod to the stereo. Now I didn't want to pull out the receiver and search for plugs in the back, so I thought about hooking it up direct to the TV which is a Samsung LNT46 or something like that, (got it last December) or through my PS3. Neither of which could I find a way to make work. Is this possible?

I don'tknow the names, but see the three colored plug-ins (red, yellow and white)? There are stuff to convert a headphone exit to the two stereo ones. Check Radio Shack.

I thought of that as well, just wanted to be able to use the cable that came with the iPod, but I don't think that's gonna be possible. The red, white & yellow are called RCA jacks.

Here you go, buddy:

1) Plug in your iPod using it's computer/usb cable to the USB port on the front of your PS3.

2) (see vid)

Update your ps3 to the latest version(you may need to on the ipod also) go to music and then peripheral hit triangle and then hit display all and you should be able to see your music.

By the way, using the usb-PS3 scheme will give you MUCH better sound than the RCA cables, since RCA is analog and the USB connection is digital.

I had the iPod hooked up through the USB port on the front, but my control wouldn't work once the iPod was plugged in. Hmmm, I'll have to try it again, I figured it would be that simple.

But for the technotard in me, how do I update to the latest version of my PS3?

I think the menu section is called Services? When you turn on the PS3 you should be able to scroll left and right through various menus. One of them (again, I think it's called services) will allow you to update to the newest version. You'll have to be connected to the internet either directly or via WIFI.

We have Direct TV at home and the PS3 is connected to the TV, but I don't think I have the PS3 hooked up online. Could I download the current version to a jump drive and plug that into the PS3? Would that work?

This is really funny. Like when my son tried to tell me how to hook up the surround sound system to the HD TV by phone.

And just to clarify you have to go through the ps3 menu to play the songs, you can not just hit play on the ipod. I actually have the cable pictured above hooked to my reciever at home because the iPod connect package for my reciever was expensive and going through the PS3 is a pain in the ass. I also put a huge hard drive in my PS3 and loaded a bunch of music right on it that is probably the easiest solution....

That is EXACTLY the same download I just did, but when I installed it on my jump drive and brought it to the PS3, it said there was no file on it. So I'm doing it again, if it don't work, fudge it, I give up.

But your PS3 has WiFi, so you can hook it up to the internet that way. Then I can play games with you online...it would be fun to stab you in the face in Call of Duty 4...

"jedipastor" is my PS3 screen name
