  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

I thought I'd see if anyone has had any of his blends and what you'd suggest.

I've read good things about his pipe tobacco, but never actually heard from anyone that's smoked it.

Just thought I'd see if there were any opinions on it.

I've almost ordered the Grandfathers Own a handful of times, but didn't because of the price and not knowing how It would be.

I think it's time to pull the trigger. I'll have it next month to smoke on my birthday.

I'm a big fan of Steve's Baccy. Personally have smoked and love: irishman's 5 o'clock, grandfathers own and first pipe of the day. All can be a little pricey but well worth it.
I read somewhere he may have had a mild stroke.

I'm going to give them a call and try to order some tobacco. That sucks if he had a stroke. I've read he's super nice and a wealth of knowledge.

Since I read this thread, I did a little bit of research into this on facebook and instragram while I've had a little down time. It seems like he's only there a few hours at a time and maybe once or twice a week for the very short periods of time. It does look like his daughter Eva is taking the helm for him to keep the shop up and running while he's recovering.

Resurrecting this thread as I just returned from House of Calabash. Steve is a wealth of knowledge and a nice guy as well. Stayed for 30 minutes and chatted about baccy then he showed me his ancient pipe collection (including some meerschaum calabash gourds from the late 19th century and even one pipe from the civil war era). Upon seeing he was out of stock of the beloved Irishman's 5 O'clock he asked me to wait a moment then disappeared to the back room - he emerged shortly thereafter with the last little bit of this coveted blend and said "I was saving this last bit for me to smoke but I have more at home so go ahead and take this."

I walked away with:

Cigar Blend #3
Dark Cherry
Lady Red's Rum
That First Pipe of the Day
Wild Rose
Grandfather's Own
Irishman's 5 O'Clock

A great day in Oregon City with many thanks to Mr. Books
