  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

How bout'a "Name that stick" thread?

Cello is way yellow. Was told it's maybe 6 years old
Here's what i've been told... It's the first production stick to come from Carlos Torano. The virtuoso. I've been smoking toranos for several years now, and dont' remember this one. Then again, i don't remember the first torano i smoked. i think it was probably the signature series.

Anyone else.

The Virtuoso line debuted in 2005, i guess your stick could be, as Greg said, an early prototype for it. If that is the case it is probably incredibly rare. I searched for an hour and couldn't find anything on the internet, now I am intrigued.

OK, just spoke with Manny at their office in Miami.

He laughed and kind of giggled when i described it to him. His reopnse, amongst the giggling, was "What you have is a collector's items."

Obviously, this ws the fist run of the Virtuoso line. Last production run was in 99 or 2000, he couldn't quite remember. They have re-released the line, but with a total different blend. When asked how this is smoking now, he laughed again. He said "It's probably been sitting in someone's humidor for about 10 years now, so it's probably pretty mild." But in a more serious tone, he said originally it wasnt' a strong cigar.

Manny seemed to have gotten a kick out of this call.

I owe huge props to Len_T for this cigar. he gave it to me when he came up to herf at my place. He was right about what it was, not tha ti doubted him, but just wanted to confirm it.

This one has two pssible fates. I'm gonna burn it on my backpacking trip next weekend or i ]m gonna save it for eternity as a collector's item that will never be smoked. The latter doesn't sound like much fun though.

What you guys think i should do with it?

Normally I would say smoke it, otherwise whats the point, however, in this case you have a real collectors item. Since it has already mellowed out and possibly lost some of its original oomph and flavor profile I would put it back in the humidor where I grabbed it. This is a good conversation stick and certainly cool to have. Congrats and props to whoever it is that gave it to you. It would be interesting to know how many he has. Let us know what you decide to do. If you burn this thing i would love to hear a review.

Some good points you make there uncel. As far as the flavors go, i'd guess this thing is toast, so it is a cool thing to have. But then again, i've got lots of "cool things to have" so maybe i'll smoke it and keep the band.

Maybe i'll hold onto it and make it a mission to meet Carlos and get him to sign it. That would be cool. and i'd like to see his reaction when he sees it. The cello is very yellow.
