BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE
Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.
How does a tubed cigar age properly ?

If it's possible (say with an aluminum tube) I just remove the cap before I put them in my humi. Otherwise for some styles of tubes I remove them altogether..
I usually save the tubes though in case I decide to gift it to someone.

I treat my NC tubos differently than my CC tubos. NC tubos I remove the cap if its a screw cap and if it isn't I just leave them be. Haven't had issues with mold and don't plan on aging most of my NC stash.
CC tubos is a different subject IMO due to the debate regarding long term aging. I leave them as is and do not remove the cap or anything. I am still learning myself, but what I have gathered so far is that tubos slow down the again process and can produce phenomenal results if patient and cared for properly (e.g. every so often, maybe every few years?, opening the cap to let any unwanted gases out, etc.). I have no idea if that is true, but that is what i have read

Regardless if you keep the cigar in tube or out of tube its always good to at least keep a few extra empty tubes around just in case you need to grab stick for the road. Just throw a tube in your pocket and your on your way. I think the storing is a matter of preference but I go with top off just because it feels like I have more control over the climate of the cigar.

I always wonder about that comment, "age properly". I agree the tubes may affect the proper moisture balance of the cigar, so I prefer to open the tubes and leave the caps beside them while they are in my humidor. I just never think about it from an aging standpoint. I always assume my cigars are aged as the producer intended before I buy them.
Do you age your cigars to even out the flavor, improve the burn, or for some other reason? I have not found that much difference between cigars I smoke today or in a year, so I am just curious. I will admit I always let cigars rest in my humidor for a couple weeks when I buy them online. I am not sure how the moisture level of the cigars has been affected by shipping, so prefer to let them sit before smoking.

Older CC in tubes have not only the cedar sleeve but a small piece of cork in the cap. I have a few from the 70s that are just fine in the tubes, in beautiful condition and humidity, it's worked for 40 years, I'm leaving them exactly how I have received them.
No so sure I would use that article as the end all be all, there are a few contradictions in it and I don't know too many people that would leave the sticks, and we are talking some very valuable collections, in 70/70 conditions, or even their every day smokes, if I had to pull an average I would say 65/65 and a few myself included prefer around 62%.
