How long will an unopened tin of Dunhill last?

Just got these from Austria.

Due to a slight misunderstanding, I've received two tins instead of just one. Since I don't really smoke pipes that much, one tin should last me for quite a while.

So what I'm looking to ask you is - will the other one dry out while I take my time smoking the first one?

tins can and are used for long term storage, so the one you don't pop should be solid until you feel like it. hell, use a sharpie and write the purchase date on the bottom, then lose it for a while. also, if you will not go through an entire tin in what you feel to be a good time frame, take half and put it in a mason jar, which is another perfect storage method.

tins, unless opened. you can still leave them in the tin for a while if your going to smoke through it. if not move it over to jars. I should not know these things. Slowly being corrupted by you pipers.

actually with the baby still waking up before the woman gets off work. it has become a preferred way to smoke during the week. I can relight it without feeling like I wasted it. Its really hard to find time to get my cigars in working opposite shifts/days off as my girl.

I've actually used mason jars for long storage on most of my stuff. If it's the time like you have there I will leave it sealed but if it's the can's I will open and put it in mason's. Just my way. Not sure if it's the best thing to do as I've heard that leaving it sealed (Tins) will not allow it to breath where as moving it to mason jars exposes the tobacco. I still think it'll be okay regardless.

Same here.

I personally feel more secure with the McClelland's or GLP style tins for long term storage, but the round shoe polish style do just fine too. It's the rectangle tins you need to keep an eye on, those have a tendency to pop unexpectedly.

I've also seen guys on other forums that wouldn't even consider opening a tin until it had 5-10yrs of age on it. Long term storage/aging is very common in the pipe tobacco world.

was going to say the same, if its a round tin your grandkids could open it and it will be fine if its square you need to check them frequently.
