How to open credo rondo

I am wanting to convert an old pair of Credo Rondo humidifiers to beads. But I cannot find a good way to open them up without Armstrong them.

Anyone did that? If so, how??

I am strongly thinking of cutting it in halves with a hacksaw or something. I just wonder how I'd put it back together when I add beads.

Can I put it back together with tape or would the glue negatively impact the air in my humidor?

I'd hate to juste waste them throwing them in the trashcan.

It appears that they're already in two pieces. Probably glued together. You could try giving it a few taps with a hammer and/or prying it apart. Alternatively, you can make bead holders out of old cigar tubes.

Old tubos make for awesome humidifiers, I agree. But if I can salvage Rondos in addition to the tubemidifiers, why not?

You are right, Credo makes them in two parts, likely glued.

I have tried to pry them open, twist them open, tried to tap them with a screwdriver at their junction, and it seems it will break before splitting appart.

There must be a trick. But I have not found it so far.

If anyone wonder or ever hit here searching on the topic, I ended up cutting it in half with a hacksaw. It is NOT made to be openable at all... there is a glued lip the whole thickness of the units so unless anyone finds a way to dillute whatever glue they used; it should not be possible to pop them open.

Hacksaw works OK. considering they use the same green foam, I realize how overpriced those units were.


Now I'll alter them to use with beads.

One "known issue" with rondo is the underneat vents sometimes causing mold so I'll block the underside and find a way to reseal.

Here's what I have done so far. Hacksawed, and constructed a bottom and holding lips with epoxy putty.

After a few days it still smells like epoxy, so I added baning soda and will see from there.
