  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

    Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Hows this work for a bomb?

cp1.jpg The first person to bomb me from this site gets return fire. I finally finished my first draw poker. It has a stabalized maple burl and elk horn handle with stainless steel welding rod for the poker. Two more to come and no two will be alike.

sorry guys I should have been more clear. The first three are return fire to people that have bombed me. After that who knows. I might stop at three as they are very time consuming and frustrateing at times.

The picture doesen't really do it justice. I will try and take a better pic later. After I finish the next two I plan on making some really nice ones! I have real elephant ivory as well as whooly mamoth ivory for inlays. If there is an interest I will place an order for handle material and plan on making some more. Prices will probably range from $50-$300 depending on material and complexity.

oosik=penis bone

Why would you want to have that?

Oosik is a term used in Alaska to describe the baculum of walruses, seals, sea lions, and polar bears. Sometimes as long as 60 cm (2 ft), fossilized bacula are often polished and used as a handle for knives and other tools. It is also frequently sold as a souvenir to tourists by Alaska Natives, the only people permitted to hunt the walrus today. In 2007 a 4.5-foot (1.4 m) long fossilized penis bone from an extinct species of walrus, believed by the seller to be the largest in existence, sold for $8,000.[6]

oosik is very pretty when polished up. My dad made a knife with an oosik handle and it turned out great. Its kind of funny to hand it to people and then ask them if they know what they are holding.
