  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Hey fellas,

I don't want to get wrapped up in beer forums as I know I will if I do a bunch of research, but what all limited release beers or HTF beers do you enjoy? I am lucky enough that the Seattle area loves their beers and I have a good store close to me so I got some Pliny the Elders, but what other highly rated, can't miss beers should one get?

Thanks! :)

Ryan, one of my favorites is the Dogfish Head Palo Santo Marron. It's aged with Palo Santo Wood and is 12% alc. by vol.

I just had a 4 pack of this stuff RAOK'd to me not more than a couple weeks ago Larry.....it's no joke. Very, very good. They tout it as a brown, but man, the stuff is damn near black which makes it look like a Stout almost. I had one beer the other night, and I had a nice little buzz goin' on. Mind you, I'm not a light weight when it comes to beer drinking either...LOL.

If you liked the Pliny Ryan, as I do, then give the Dogfish Head 90 minute a whirl.....pretty awesome as well. Although not sure it would classify as HTF, but a winner nonetheless.

Since you're in WA.....also see if you can track down Rogue Captain Sig Northwestern Ale. I've really been enjoying that one. A small batch made for one of the Captain's in the Deadliest Catch.

Tacoma is like my second hometown. I was just there in April and discovered all it's goodness.
Sweet, next time you come to T-town let us know. Me and Hot Sauce's home B&M is Smokey Joe's right in Tacoma. (Fife technically) It has a great smoking lounge.

And... my wife works just a few miles from 99 bottles so I'm there a lot!

Some of the soured beer offerings from Russian River and Jolly Pumpkin I would say are pretty HTF especially if you don't live near their distribution areas. Founders Kentucky Breakfast Stout can be hard to locate. There's the seasonal releases from DFH like World Wide Stout, and the other oddities they sell in bomber bottles. Also Palo Santo was mentioned that can be HTF because it's aged for four months in the wood tanks so they can only realistically make so much. I think they have two tanks so they can rotate between the two.

A local brewery which only distributes to PA and the surrounding states puts out a beer called Nugget Nectar dubbed an "imperial amber" It's a hoptastic beer. Plus then they put out the Flying Mouflan in March or April. It's their barleywine which is also super hoppy. I have 10 or 11 bottles in the closet.

There are quite a few rarer imports that can be hard to locate especially from Belgium when we're talking Lambics and some nice Geuzes. There are also specialty beers that come from Germany that aren't exactly common but not necessarily hard to find.

Lastly there's the beers produced at the Smokinghole Brewery. Beers like the Tsar Bomba Russian imperial stout, the Oak in the Bog barleywine, Chamomile Field Belgian-style wit, Jagged Saison, Drunkn' Punkin' ale, and Composition Citra-4 IIPA. These beers are all made in a very small batch style and hand bottled with love and care. The distribution is nationwide but it doesn't happen frequently. :bottle:

Thanks for all the ideas guys, appreciate it!

And thanks for the suggestion above as I happened to find this one out in the boonies while camping this weekend and had a couple of them. I also bought a couple for my father-in-law and brother-in-law... they are great beers! And, some of the proceeds goes towards the Fisherman's Fund.

One of my favorites is Old Viscosity by Port Brewing Company out of San Marcos. It is not a HTF (the nicer QFCs have it) just kinda spendy.
